[ Edit: Due to insufficient interest, DAWGWATER has been delayed until further notice. We will likely reschedule to some time in the Spring/Summer, and are strongly considering switching to an online format instead. ]
Hello all!
Glad to officially announce that Mississippi State University will once again be hosting a trash tournament this year on October 21st in person at our campus. For those of you who attended last years "Dawg Trash" competition, we've rebranded to DAWGWATER (Definitely A World-class Game Written And Totally Edited Right) but the content should be similar, with a new set of 7 packets with 20 questions, no power markings, and a slightly modified distribution. Speaking of which...
Distribution
4/4 Screen
3/3 Music
2/3 Internet Culture
3/2 Video Games
2/2 Sports
2/2 Pop Literature
1/1 Stage
1/1 Fun & Games
2/2 Other
We've split our old "Video game and internet culture" category into its two respective parts, and dialed back the proportion of screen and music questions to carve out new and interesting categories to increase the diversity of questions. What's left of our "other" category is further broken into multidisciplinary questions that pull clues from multiple categories and miscellaneous questions to cover any topic that might be neglected by existing categories.
Gameplay will follow ACF rules, available here: https://acf-quizbowl.com/gameplay-rules/
Registration
Registration cost will be the same as last year. Teams of four players and two alternates can register for 60$. Teams of two can register at a shorthand price of $30, but will not be eligible for discounts. Individual players can register for $10 each, and will be randomly assigned to teams of four. If the number of individuals is not divisible by 4, leftover players will be assigned randomly to shorthand teams (assuming both parties consent).
Teams of 4 are eligible for the following discounts (to a minimum total of $40 per team):
[*] Bringing buzzers: -$10 off total for each set provided
[*] Registering multiple teams (up to 3 per school): -$10 off for each team after the first (ie. 60 + 50 + 40)
[*] Fielding a Mississippi State Student: -$10 off each team with at least 1 Msstate student
[*] Miles traveled: $5 dollars off for every 50 miles traveled.
The form for registration can be found below! We have a soft deadline of October 6th, but registration is open past that with a late fee of $10 per team of two/four, or 5$ per individual.

There is currently a field cap of 14, but this may be expanded to 16 if there is enough interest.

Re: [Open] DAWGWATER 2023 Trash Official Announcement & Registration
To clarify, the miles traveled deduction is miles traveled one-way. Apologies for the ambiguity.
