Hello all,

The University of Chicago College Bowl Team is excited to announce that we will be hosting a mirror of the pop culture set ACRONYM 16 on Saturday, May 13. I, Liam Starnes, will be handling TD duties leading up to the tournament, while Vivek Sasse will be handling day-of TD duties.

This is an open tournament, meaning that any human being who is not in jail or banned from quizbowl is allowed to play with whatever teammates they want, regardless of their ages or school affiliations. To register, email me at [email protected] with the number of teams, buzzers, and staffers you intend to bring. The field cap will be initially set at 10 teams with the potential for expansion based on staff availability. More information about the set can be found here: viewtopic.php?t=26356

Fees
Base fee: $20 x number of players per team
Working buzzer discount: -$5 each
Approved moderator discount: -$10 each

The tournament will be held in Cobb Hall (5811 S Ellis Ave, Chicago, IL). Parking can be found on the street or at the nearby Campus North and Campus South parking garages (for a fee). All teams should arrive by 8:45 AM with games beginning at 9 AM. The tournament will likely go 5 rounds before the lunch break, and then 4ish more rounds plus finals.

Unfortunately, the weekend of the 20th does not work because it is the weekend before spring quarter final exams, meaning that we will have a hard time finding in-house staffers. After that, the school year will be over. I do not think that the 6th gives teams enough time to notice the forum post, decide who is coming, and register (although if a significant number of people think otherwise there is a chance that we could move the tournament to the 6th). I will make a final decision on the date by this Friday at the latest.

Hearing no further objections (and because no non-Chicago teams have even signed up yet), the tournament will definitely be on Saturday, May 13. We apologize for being so late in announcing the tournament that it could not be moved to the 6th.
