Texas Area MRNA II Online (26 - March)

Post by Father of the Ragdoll »

Hello everyone! I am pleased to announce an online mirror of MRNA II, a medium difficulty set (easier than ACF Regionals, harder than ACF Fall).

Basic Information
The tournament will be hosted using Zoom and BuzzIn Live rooms, with a Google sheet hub. To accommodate the spread in time zones, all times in this announcement will be in central time. The tournament will start with a staff meeting at 8:30am and a player meeting at 8:45am, leading into rounds starting at 9:00am.

Eligibility

This event is only for closed teams, meaning teams of students who all attend the same college. This tournament is also region locked, with that region currently consisting of:
  • Arkansas
  • Louisiana
  • Mississippi
  • New Mexico
  • Oklahoma
  • Texas

Additionally, teams which want to play this mirror due to extenuating circumstances, a lack of a local mirror, or scheduling conflicts may petition to be admitted to the field by sending an email to vef2jj AT virginia DOT edu with "MRNA Texas Mirror" in the subject line explaining the rationale for the request.

Registration

Mitchell Shadden will be serving as the tournament director of this event. To register, teams should send an email to longhornqbclub AT gmail DOT com
with the subject line "MRNA Online." Your registration email should contain the following information:
1) the number of teams you will be sending (with rosters if possible)
2) the emails of the staffers you will be providing
3) whether you qualify for the shorthanded or new school discounts
4) and the total expected cost

The base fee for playing will be $100. Teams may also accrue the following discounts:
  • "New to quizbowl" discount: –$30 for any school whose teams have never played a regular-difficulty (not exclusively novice) collegiate academic tournament before September 1, 2021 and whose players have not formerly played such tournaments for another school.
  • Staffers (as needed): -$30 for each capable staffer with a secure internet connection and the capacity to staff a room solo if need be
  • Shorthand team: -$30 for teams with 1 or 2 players
The Minimum Fee is $60

Field (Capped at 12 provisionally)
Registered:
  • Alberta
  • Arizona State
  • Houston
  • Mississippi State
  • Oklahoma x 3
