Carnegie Quiz V (Pittsburgh, 2/18)

Post by yc9701 »

Carnegie Mellon Quiz Bowl is pleased to announce that we will host Carnegie Quiz IV on our Pittsburgh campus on Saturday, February 18, 2023. The field is capped at 18 teams with the potential to expand depending on staff.

Format:
Rounds will be 20 tossups and untimed, but we will keep the tournament moving at a fast and consistent pace. All other rules will be consistent with NAQT standard. See https://www.naqt.com/rules/ for a detailed breakdown of rules. We will be using question set IS-215.

Registration:
To register, please fill out this form (https://forms.gle/wiv4YzGmWa3oD7dh8) or email us at [email protected] with your school name and the number of teams, buzzers, and moderators you plan to bring. Registration will close on Saturday, February 11, a week before the tournament.

Fees and Discounts:
$75 for first team
$65 per additional team
-$10 per fully functional buzzer system (at least eight working buzzers)
-$10 per experienced moderator
-$20 per team for schools new to quiz bowl this year (defined as: schools that did not attend any quizbowl tournaments in the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 academic years.)

The minimum fee per team is $40.

Payment: We expect payment (cash or checks made out to “Carnegie Mellon University”) on the morning of the tournament. Please email us or indicate on the registration form if you need to make other arrangements.

Schedule:
Teams should aim to arrive by 8:30 am, after which we will have an opening meeting followed by morning gameplay. The exact number of rounds and playoff/finals format will be determined by the field size. As the tournament approaches, more detailed logistical information will be provided to registered teams.

COVID policy:
In accordance with CMU rules, all attendees (players, coaches, and staff) will be required to wear facial coverings throughout the duration of the tournament. CMU's current COVID posture requires all visitors to also sign an attestation of vaccination or recent negative test; we will update this post (and email registered teams) if the situation changes. If your school has particular COVID-related requirements for extracurricular activities, please do not hesitate to reach out and let us know, and we will do our best to accomodate you!

Feel free to post in this thread or reach out to us at [email protected] with any questions you may have. We hope to see you soon!
