RESULTS: FAcT (11/11/06) at Yale (New Haven, CT)

Post by NatusRoma »

After last year’s successful revival of the Fall Academic Tournament (FAcT), Yale Student Academic Competitions is pleased to announce that the 2nd annual FAcT will take place on Yale’s campus on October 7, 2006. The tournament, which will be untimed, will be run on NAQT A-level packets and using NAQT rules. Teams that finish in the top fifteen percent of the field will automatically qualify for NAQT’s 2007 High School Nation Championship Tournament. The tournament will use packet set IS 61A, for which we have geographic exclusivity for the states of Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, and New Jersey. Of the two high school tournaments that Yale hosts each year, FAcT is a little more relaxed, and is a great fall tune-up. We hope to see you there.

Fee Structure:

$75 per team, with a $5 discount for each additional team from the same high school
$10 discount for each working buzzer system
$5 discount for each moderator
Minimum fee with all discounts: $60 per team

To register, or for any information, please contact Andrew Uzzell at [email protected] or Brett Lazer at [email protected]

We look forward to seeing you on the 7th.

By the way, we plan to hold Bulldog High School Academic Tournament (BHSAT) XVI on March 3, 2007. BHSAT is entirely written and edited by Yale Student Academic Competitions, and regularly attracts top teams from across the nation. We will release more detailed information about BHSAT in the coming months.

Due to insufficient available rooms on Yale's campus on October 7, we are moving FAcT to Saturday, November 11. We will still be using set IS-61A. We apologize for any inconvenience that the change of date may have caused anyone.

(To the moderator(s): Please edit the title of the thread accordingly). (Fred note: done)

What a difference two days makes.

Field update (10/27/06).

Southington, CT (2)
E.O. Smith, CT (2)
Suffield HS, CT
Byram Hills, NY (2)
Housatonic, CT (2)
Montville, CT (2)
Norwich Free Academy, CT (2)
Terryville, CT
Bromfield, MA
Old Saybrook, CT (2)
Half Hollow Hills, NY (4)
Williston, MA
Manchester West, NH
Northern Highlands, NJ (3)
Windsor, CT

Total: 27

Expressed interest but unregistered:

Hunter, NY
Daniel Hand, CT
Joel Barlow, CT

For the present moment, we have to cap the field at 28 teams. We think that we can arrange enough additional rooms for a field of 35, but there's no guarantee.

Until then, if more than 28 teams attempt to register, we will restrict the number of teams from each school to two, and place additional teams from the same school on the waitlist.

So, if you're thinking about coming to FAcT but haven't registered yet, please do so as soon as possible.

Waitlist:

Half Hollow Hills West, NY (2)

We were able to get the additional rooms, and so we will fix the field at 35, with the following teams:

Housatonic, CT (2)
Montville, CT (2)
Norwich Free Academy, CT (2)

Northern Highlands, NJ (3)
Windsor, CT
Stuyvesant, NY (3)
White Plains, NY (2)

New Milford, CT

We are currently short one buzzer system, and will need two or three more moderators. Please let me know if you can provide either.

After some last-minute dropouts, we're two teams short of a full field. Please let me know if you're interested in coming or in sending one or more additional teams.

Thirty teams came to Yale today to play in the fall academic tournament. Hunter College (NY) won a thrilling victory over Daniel Hand (CT) in the final round to take the championship. The other semifinalists were Manchester West (NH) and E.O. Smith A (CT). Thanks to everyone who came out, and congratulations to Hunter.

If you happen to have more complete results from this tournament, I'd be very interested in seeing them.
