USN Winter Tournament @ University School of Nashville (1/7/2023)

Post by Sima Guang Hater »

The University School of Nashville is pleased to announce USN Winter. This tournament will take place in-person at the University School of Nashville on Saturday, January 7th, 2023, and will be directed by Em Gunter (TD), Eric Mukherjee (asst TD) and members of the USN team. Check-in on the day of the tournament will begin at 8AM central, with a start time of 915AM for the first round.

Questions:
This tournament will be run using DART III, from the writers of the very well-received DART tournaments of years past. The tournament is harder than a regular difficulty high school tournament. Last year's version of the tournament can be found here: https://quizbowlpackets.com/2656/

Format:
We will be using untimed rounds consisting of 20 tossups with three-part bonuses. We will use standard NAQT gameplay rules (https://www.naqt.com/rules/). There will be powers and negs, and no bouncebacks on bonuses. Teams will be seeded into preliminary brackets and playoff brackets will be determined based on preliminary record (ties broken by PPG). All teams will be offered a minimum of 8 games, and statistics (including individual statistics) will be kept in full.

Fees and Discounts:
The base fee is $80 for the first team sent by a school and $70 for any subsequent teams.
Moderators: $15 discount will be offered for experienced moderators.
Buzzers: $5 discount per buzzer with no limit on buzzers (until we reach around 10 buzzers).
Travel Discount: $5 discount for every 100 miles traveled one-way according to Google Maps.
The minimum fee is $45.

Registration:
This tournament is open to any high school teams, with all players from the same school. Teams can register for this tournament by sending an email to [email protected]. When registering, please let us know how many teams, buzzers, and moderators you expect to bring. The field cap is tentatively set at 24 teams, though we will consider expanding the field if there is enough interest and if enough staff can be found.

Location:
The tournament will take place at USN Upper School. Directions and parking will be made available closer to the tournament date.

Payment:
Schools may pay using cash, personal checks, funds from an organization, or school checks. We prefer payment the day of, but checks can be sent ahead of time (contact us for more information). If you require a pre-tournament invoice or W-9 form in order to have a check written, please let us know before the tournament.

There will also be concessions (pizza, other snacks) available for lunch.

Team Size:
Teams must consist of players from the same school. Teams will consist of up to four active players and up to two substitutes for a total of six players per team. Players may not transfer between teams.

Prizes:
We will award trophies for the top three teams and medals to the top ten individual scorers.

Contact:
Any questions about the tournament can be directed to [email protected].

Sorry about this, YellowFruit was completely broken on my operating system at the time and other parts of life got in the way at the time. I will hopefully get the stats up by this time next week. I am currently on school holiday and will be returning to university tomorrow evening so I likely won't be able to get to it until Wednesday.

Just wanted to follow up with you, I experienced some delays in my travel that resulted in my arrival to the University being delayed. I probably won't be able to get to this until Friday.
