Jersey Shore Introductory Tournament (JSIT) @ Manasquan (11/19/22)

Post by nicole. »

I am pleased to announce, in affiliation with the Manasquan High School Academic Competition Team, the Jersey Shore Introductory Tournament, in-person, in Manasquan, Monmouth County, New Jersey! All important information is below.

The tournament will be directed by myself.

Location and Dates

The Jersey Shore Introductory Tournament will be hosted at Manasquan High School, 167 Broad Street, Manasquan, New Jersey, right off Interstate 195 and Exit 98 of the Garden State Parkway. There is also a train station 10 minutes walking from the High School.

The tournament will take place on Saturday, November 19th from 9:00 AM to 4 PM, with registration opening at 8:15 AM.

Questions/Format

The Jersey Shore Invitational Tournament will be using the NAQT IS-212A set. We will be using the standard 20/20 format and NAQT rules, but there will be no game clock. We will be using computational math bonuses but not tossups.

Teams will be fairly placed into preliminary brackets before being re-seeded for playoffs. Teams will be guaranteed a minimum of 8 games; teams will be expected to play all available rounds, even if your team is not in contention for the championship.

Teams

There are a maximum of 6 players per team, four of whom may play at once. If you wish to bring more players than that, please register additional teams. There are no exceptions to this rule. Teams may play short, with one player as a minimum. Nobody may switch teams during the tournament, such as from “A” to “B” or otherwise.

Teams that have not played an in-person NAQT Format Tournament since September 1st, 2016 may claim a $30 new team discount per team.

As this tournament is aimed toward the many teams in the South Jersey/Jersey Shore Region that haven't played pyramidal, there will be some eligibility restrictions. Players who have averaged over 2 powers per game at a high school level Tournament are ineligible, and players who have scored over 70 ppg at any tournament are ineligible.

The field is capped at 18 teams. You will be placed onto a waitlist if you miss the cutoff, and the field may expand if there is demand.

We are happy to allow pseudonymous teams and teams not directly sponsored by their district to register. However, we do have certain requirements for these teams, so please contact us via phone or email prior to registration and we will be happy to work with you.

It is not mandatory for a coach, parent, or adult to attend with their team; however, it is highly recommended.

Readers, Buzzers, and Question Sets
As the supply of local readers is expected to be fairly high given the Thanksgiving break, we will not have any reader fees. We will provide a $25 discount per experienced moderator signed up. If the tournament ends up being run analog (paper scoresheets and packets with a central scorekeeper), copies of the question set will be provided to teams for free. If we end up using a digital setup, teams will get the packets in their NAQT Locklizard Database on July 1st, 2023 for no charge.

Buzzer discounts will be offered to the amount of $15 per buzzer set.

Prizes

Trophies will be awarded to the top 2 teams after each tournament and the individual with the highest average Points per Game overall. The eight or so high scorers at each tournament will be awarded book prizes.

Fees

The fee structure is as follows:

$70 per team per tournament
-$25 for each additional reader
-$15 for each buzzer set
-$30 New Team Discount

As we are in the process of getting officially incorporated, we will have payment details ready closer to the tournament.

Payment is due the morning of the event.

Registration

In order to register, click this link to take you to our registration system on NAQT.com.

Please ensure that you register prior to the day of the tournament! Registration closes five days prior to the event.

Food

There will be no breakfast provided at this tournament as of now. We will be sending out a pizza order form a week or two before the tournament, and Downtown Manasquan has plenty of food options otherwise.

Stats

Full and complete team and individual statistics will be posted within 24 hours after the completion of this event.

Please let us know if you have any further questions! You can ask in this thread or email [email protected].

We have recently gotten approval from Manasquan HS to expand, so we are upping the field cap to 30 as of now. However, we do need staffers. If you are interested in staffing, email me at [email protected]. We'll pay for travel and you will be provided with a free meal.

Updates:
After the success of computational math tossups at MEQBA Fall II, I have decided to implement them for this tournament. As well, due to circumstances out of my control, I am no longer able to provide a breakfast spread. Thanks to everyone who signed up, and I look forward to hosting you this weekend.
