Princeton High School Academic Tournament XXIX (PHSAT XXIX) at Princeton University, 09/24/2022

Post by BringerOfJollity »

Princeton University Quiz Bowl will host the 29th Princeton High School Academic Tournament (PHSAT XXIX) on Saturday, September 24, 2022. We will be using NAQT IS-213, which is a regular difficulty set. We will be using untimed NAQT rules, but overtime will be sudden death, and players will have 5 seconds to answer after buzzing in. We will be skipping computational math tossups and bonuses. PHSAT is targeted at schools and teams looking for a competitive early-season tournament.

Any questions may be directed to me at jlding (at) princeton.edu. Please include [PHSAT] in the subject line. If you’re interested in staffing this tournament, please also email me; we need all the help we can get!

Location:
Check-in will begin at 8 AM in McCosh Hall, Room 10 and close at 8:40. Matches will begin at 9 AM in East Pyne Hall. Parking and other information will be distributed soon. You can find a map of Princeton’s campus here.

NOTE: McCosh Hall is located north of Frist Campus Center, and should not be confused with McCosh Health Center to the south. East Pyne Hall is directly northwest of McCosh Hall, and should not be confused with Pyne Hall.

Lunch will not be provided, except for staff. Dining options are available on Nassau Street. Food and tables are also available in Frist Campus Center.

Registration:
Please register via this link: https://www.naqt.com/registration/field.jsp?tournament_id=13638. The registration deadline is September 21st at 11:59 PM ET. Teams dropping after the deadline will still pay their expected fees.

The field will be capped at 24 teams, with no more than 3 teams per school. We will consider expanding the field given ample buzzer/staff support.

Fees:
First Team: $85
Additional teams: $75 per team (2 max)
Buzzer discount: -$5 per functional system that allows for at least eight players.
Moderator discount: -$10 per experienced moderator available to help all day. Moderators will be provided with lunch.
Minimum fee per team: $50

Please come prepared to make payments at check-in (cash or check preferred). Teams will not be considered checked-in until payment is confirmed. Checks should be made out to “Princeton University Quiz Bowl.”

The field is now full—any teams that register now will be placed on the waitlist. Although we don't currently plan on expanding the field, I'll update this forum post if we decide to do so.

Final stats can be found here. Detroit Country Day finished in 1st place with a perfect 11-0 record, while Stevens A finished in 2nd and Hunter A finished in 3rd. (The tie for 2nd was broken by PPG in games played against top bracket teams.)

Thank you so much for attending, and we hope to see you next year!
