ACRONYM 15 Online: May 1 and June 26

Post by InvadErGII »

Play Quiz Bowl will be running online mirrors of ACRONYM 15 on Sunday, May 1 and Sunday, June 26.

Registration for both events is $90 per team. In both cases, games will begin around 9am central time, with ~5 prelim rounds in the morning and some sort of playoff in the afternoon.

When registering, please make sure you're in the spreadsheet for the correct date. There is also a column labeled "HS?" - use this to indicate if you are a team of high school players. If we can get enough teams to support a separate high school division in either or both tournaments, we'll do so.

You can register for the May 1 tournament here.

You can register for the June 26 tournament here.

I am probably interested in playing of these (likely May 1st) if no in person mirrors pop up (but I'd totally be interested in that). I'd like some teammates who actually know things about recent popular culture.

Matt Weiner, Dr. Eric Mukherjee, and myself are looking for a fourth player for the May 1st mirror. Preferably someone who knows "other" sports and modern TV/music.

It sure is! I've updated that in the OP.

I have also added free agent columns for both days, if you're looking for teammates.

For those in the midwest - I understand there will indeed be a Chicago mirror in mid-May. Stay tuned for the announcement on this shortly.

That May 1st field is huge--is there enough staff and logistics for such a field? Do we need to do anything else (besides pay) to complete registration?

Nothing else needed at this point. I'll be reaching out about payment and logistics as soon as possible after SSNCT editing is done.

I'm also gonna cap this field at 24 teams for now, and will add more if and when we have more than enough moderators.

This was an enjoyable tournament and the questions were good.

I *might* suggest updating some of the clues--they weren't huge deals, but particularly in sports questions, a number of the questions about what teams players are on, etc. are out of ate.

Yes, here they are. Apologies for how long this took.

Should be around a week before the tournament.

Speaking of which - if you played this in May and are available to read for it on the 26th, please let me know! We could use a couple more at least. As with the last event, I'm capping this at 24 for now, pending reader signups.
