Reinstein Varsity (Barrington, IL on 12/18/21)

Post by Stained Diviner »

The 2021 Reinstein Varsity Tournament will take place on December 18 at Barrington High School in Chicagoland. We will have an Über-Competitive Division and a Standard Division. The Arcadia Set will be used in the Über-Competitive Division, and NAQT IS 207A will be used in the Standard Division. (The same A Set is being used at Hendricks Memorial, Riverdale Early-Season, and Pretzel.)

To register for the tournament, use the NAQT website. If you have any questions, contact me at [email protected] or post below. Team names must be the name of the high school that the students attend. Checks should be made out to Reinstein QuizBowl and sent to Reinstein QuizBowl; PO Box 57; 125 Schelter Road; Lincolnshire, IL 60069.

Because the two divisions are using different questions, and the Über-Competitive Division questions are very difficult for high school students, we are allowing all teams to register for the division of their choice. This means that there may be some very strong teams in the Standard Division. The tournament format will be determined based on the number of entries for each division.

This competition will follow PACE rules except there will be no bouncebacks on bonuses, and there will be 15 point powers.

The cost is $110 per team, which covers lunch for the students and coach. There is not a buzzer discount, but we expect teams to bring buzzers unless they have a good reason not to. Teams traveling long distances or who are in financial hardship can request a discount.

Everybody at the tournament is expected to be either fully vaccinated or tested weekly. Also, everybody should have their mouth and nose covered by a mask except during lunch, and the rules for lunch are still being worked out. Let me know if you have questions about that.

FAQ
Q: Do you need staff?
A: Yes, but we only need them if they have a laptop or tablet with functioning wifi.

Two months out and already 11 teams from 3 other states have signed up for the Uber Division alone! I should reach out to the nearby Hampton Inn and see if they'll offer some sort of rate for the out-of-towners. I'll post here if they do.
In the meantime, here's a link to view the current field;

I'll accept any registrations that come in this week. After that registrations will be accepted at my discretion.

I could use a couple more buzzers and a couple more staffers, but we're pretty close to where we need to be.

To those who played in the Über—Competitive Division— thank you all for playing ARCADIA! There is a Discord server that you can join for set discussion here, as well as a private discussion forum that you can join via the usergroups tab in your Forums control panel.
