Depending on the date, sounds fun...looking for a team.

BTW, you say "no bonuses" but the distro still has things like 8/8.

Ooh, exciting!

Any projection of what the trash/art, English/foreign-language, old/new balances will be?

To be honest, since there are only four packets and there are teams, I wouldn't mind having bonuses. But they do make an event longer and harder to write.

I can’t guarantee an exact distribution of time periods, but there will be more English speaking films since those are more known at least where I’m from. Still there will be some foreign films in there. There’s also no set distribution for trash/art. There’ll be a decent mix of each, but it’s not set in stone.

I was experimenting with bonuses in the set, but it did make it more difficult to write and would slow down the pace a lot. For now it’ll be tossups only, but if I get a co-writer with some great bonuses I’d be happy to include them.

CAMP will be on August 8, 2020. Because it’s so far in advance, I’m temporarily closing registrations until it’s closer to the tournament so all the spots don’t fill up so quickly. If I can get more staff, I can raise the cap.

Even teams or individuals who registered before May 24 are still good to go. I’m only closing registrations at the moment for new teams.

Re: CAMP I Online Film Tournament for Charity (August 8)

The past few days in the U.S. have hard to watch. This tournament started as a way to raise money for those suffering from the Covid-19 pandemic, and now it will additionally raise money to combat inequality. The proceeds of this tournament will now be completely donated to Feeding America and The Bail Project.

I am reopening registrations. The field cap is being expanded to 12 teams. Sign up on the spreadsheet that is the original post. The cap may be expanded some time later.

Moderators and scorekeepers are needed to run this tournament. Sign up on the spreadsheet.

Thank you all. Hope to see you on August 8.

Now offering payment of $20 to staffers for CAMP and I will also put forth at least an additional 7% of the funds to go to the charities to ensure a substantial amount is donated.

The 12 team cap is just about full. If I get more staffers, I will raise the cap. Those interested in staffing can sign up on the spreadsheet that’s in the original post. Staffers will be paid $20.

There about 3 teams in the waitlist as of the time I am writing this. I need more staffers to increase the cap. I hope to increase the cap because I want everyone who wishes to play, play. To reiterate, staffers will be paid $20.

The field cap is now extended to 16 teams.

I advise those who signed up as free agents to arrange a team as soon as possible or I will arrange teams based on the list order on the spreadsheet. Once you do organize a team, email or PM me to let me know.

I also might have to put free agents on already existing teams that have less than 4 players. If you are on a team with less than 4 players and do not want a free agent put on your team, notify me.

Registration will close on July 18. A majority of the slots are filled already, but I am open to increasing the cap provided more people are interested in staffing.

The initial announcement says Discord, no?

I am curious, though, what format is going to be used to run a 16-team tournament on only 4-5 packets.

Oh yeah, it does say Discord--my bad. I'll clarify--do you want the use of cameras?

For 16 teams on 5 packets, you could do 4 brackets of 4 (3 packets), create 4 winners and then do two single elimination playoff games to crown a champion (people who didn't win their prelim bracket could play crossover scrimmages of some sort).

That format works mathematically, but is quite sensitive to initial seeding, which is a potential problem for a tournament like this, in which we don't have tons of data to help us rank teams correctly. Might I make the bold suggestion that we do this as a Swiss tournament? (We have the right number of packets for it.)

I apologize for the lack of announcements and updates.

This tournament is still happening and all participants should receive an email with the server link within the next couple days.

Payments can be made via Venmo @Jade-Anderson-32 or PayPal [email protected]
From there, they will be donated to the respectful charities.

As for the seedings, I am honestly open to any and all input from people more mathematically talented than I, which is everyone. I may have wrongly calculated the seedings and rounds. We actually may not do playoffs since there's not many rounds.

Thanks all! See you soon!

I’m sorry to say that I have to postpone CAMP due to my power being out from a storm. The electric company says it be back up for a couple days and I can’t run a tournament without a charged computer. The new date will be August 15. I apologize for an inconvenience. Feel free to reach out to me through email or PM for any questions or concerns.

CAMP will be posted to the archives soon. If anyone is up for it, I can read some questions over the main qb Discord tomorrow.

Thank you all for participating! Stats can be found here https://hsquizbowl.org/db/tournaments/6504/

Please please please pay the entry fee if you haven't already. All the proceeds not going to staffers is being donated to The Bail Project and Feeding America plus 7% of the total from my own pocket. When everyone gets their payments in, we will have raised almost $1000 to be donated! Again, get those payments in as soon as possible. My venmo is @Jade-Anderson-32 and my paypal is [email protected]

Also if any staff has not been paid yet, please let me know so I can pay you.
