DATE AND TIME:
SCOP Novice Online will take place on SUNDAY, April 19, 2020, from 10 AM EST to 4 or 5 PM. Online registration opens at 9:15 AM. All players and coaches should be logged onto the server by 9:45 AM.
QUESTIONS/FORMAT:
The event will (obviously) be using SCOP Novice, a High School set of novice difficulty. Unlike our other three tournaments, we will be reading bonuses. The tournament will follow NAQT rules.
Teams will be seeded into preliminary brackets, followed by re-seeding for playoffs. All teams will be guaranteed 10 rounds. Teams are expected to stay and play the entire event, even if you are not in contention for the championship.
Due to high interest and support from moderators nationwide, the field cap has been expanded to 30 teams! If this also fills we will look to expand to 36 teams.
TEAMS:
There are a maximum of 4 players per team, all of whom may play at once. No alternates or substitutions will be permitted. Teams may play short, with a minimum of one player. Nobody may switch teams during the tournament, such as from "A" to "B" or otherwise. There will be a maximum of 4 teams per school.
Without exception, all players MUST be from the same school. This is not an open mirror; no chimera teams are permitted whatsoever.
The tournament will have restricted eligibility. You can play this tournament if:
-You are in your first or second year of high school quiz bowl and have not attended NSC or HSNCT. Veteran middle school players should use their best judgment and TD discretion will also be applied. (Borrowed from Hunter's SCOP Mirror) OR
- You never scored over 50 PPG at any event
To ensure the smooth functioning of our event, rosters must be submitted at least one week in advance, and they will be checked for eligibility. Coaches are welcome to spectate, as long as we know in advance.
We are happy to allow pseudonymous teams and teams not directly sponsored by their school or district to register. However, we do have certain requirements for these teams, so please contact us via email or phone prior to registration and we will be happy to work with you.
PRIZES:
Trophies will be mailed to the top three teams as well as the top individual. We reserve the right to increase the number of trophies and prizes as the field expands at our discretion.
FEES:
There will be a flat fee of $60 per team. No discounts are available. Fees are due at least one week prior to the event.
Payment can be made via mailed check, PayPal, Venmo, or Wire (if you insist). Please do not mail cash. Note that PayPal, Venmo, and Wire may charge an additional fee. We can process purchase orders and we will provide W-9 forms and invoices on request.
Write all checks to "The Long Island Quiz Bowl Alliance". Mail checks to P.O. Box 205, Nesconset, NY 11767.
