Announcement: 2019-20 Fantasy Quizbowl

This is an announcement for Fantasy Quizbowl 2019-2020. It has been shamelessly modified from last year's announcement.

Teams will each start 3 individual players and 1 team, with the ability to list one alternate.

The scoring is as follows:

Individual Scoring

Prelim Points Per Game: 100 points, scaled by the highest Prelim PPG in the league. 100 * (PPG / Highest PPG)
Prelim Win-Loss Percentage: 40 points, scaled by the maximum Prelim W-L% in the league. 40 * (W-L% / Highest W-L%)
Final Placement: 40 points, scaled according to the number of teams in the field. 40 * (1 - (Placement / #Teams in the Field))
Whimsy Factor: 20 points, calculated as 20 * (Negs Per Game / Highest Negs Per Game) * (Powers Per Game / Highest Powers Per Game) (note: gets are used in lieu of powers for sets without powers)
+10 points per neg on tossup 20 that turns a guaranteed win into a tie-able situation (self-reported)

Team Scoring

Points Per Bonus: 200 points, scaled by the highest PPB in the league. (PPB - 10) / (Highest PPB - 10)
Whimsy Factor: capped at 100 points, calculated as .75 * (Most Negs in a Win)^2 * (PPG / (PPG - PAPG)) (note: the factor PPG / (PPG - PAPG) is capped at 3)[This has been modified from last year's scoring system]

For open tournaments, managers will have the option to designate one of their players for their "team" spot and their PPB will be based on the PPB of that player's team. You may not pick up open teams from the waiver wire.

We will have a full round robin.

POINTS OF NOTE
- Playoffs: Top 4 teams will make playoffs; semifinals on NAQT ICT, finals on ACF Nats. The season will thus end in April, with winning managers receiving "prizes."
- Rosters: Rosters are still 10 players. See below for more information.
- Weekly Lineups: Every "week" you will need to list, out of the 10 players on your roster, the 3 players and 1 team you will start and the 1 player that will serve as an alternate if 1 of your starters does not play. This will need to happen before the scheduled start time of the first tournament that week; as a rule of thumb, that is typically around 9 AM Eastern on Saturday. If you do not set a new lineup, your lineup from the previous "week" will carry over.
- Open Mirrors of Otherwise Closed Sets - If a player or team is playing an open mirror of an otherwise closed set (ex. online mirrors), you may only play the player or team if they meet the eligibility requirements of the closed mirrors of the set.
- Additional changes will be made if they are suggested and I think the suggestions are good.

Week 7: NAQT SCT
Week 8: Terrapin Open
Week 9: LIT or WORKSHOP [This depends upon which set has more mirrors before ICT]

As a reminder, our draft is at 10:00PM ET on September 17th, 2019. Please make sure that you or a representative for your team is in the Quizbowl Discord by the start of the draft. Additionally, you may find the draft board here The draft order was created by randomly assigning teams to the numbers 1-10 and then randomly shuffling those numbers. Any complaints may be directed to the league's ombudsman.

For the teams section, when teams decide to split into "even" teams (such as Texas at EFT), will fantasy teams which start a school's A team (for a school that doesn't have a nationally relevant B team, so I guess Chicago and some others are exceptions to this) be awarded points for "the team that school labeled 'A'" or "the best performing team from that school?"

You get the team that you played. If you played "Texas A" and they are outperformed by "Texas B" you still get "Texas A"s points. If no "Texas A" plays, then you get no points.

Is there any particular reason that this is not being handled the same as last year (where teams were assigned A,B,C... by ppb)? I agree with the change to allow Texas B to outperform Texas A, but it makes no sense to not give any points because a team chose to ignore the conventions of naming teams.

I don't believe that this was ever codified last season. But I prefer this rule. From now on, if a school uses non-standard team names (ie Chicago Red, Chicago Blue, Chicago Orange) teams will be assigned "A, B, C" labels based upon PPB. Otherwise, you are given the stats of the team that you played.
