ILLIAC at Brown
This is an announcement for a mirror of 2019 ILLIAC to be held at Brown University on April 20th, 2019. Details about the set can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=21741.
Logistics:
The tournament will be held in the Barus and Holley building, on Brook St between George St and Waterman St (the same place the Sun God Mirror was held). The front of the building is in the new Engineering Center, on Thayer Street. A map of campus can be found here: https://www.brown.edu/Facilities/Facili ... ment/maps/. Registration will begin at 8, and (hopefully) matches will begin at 9. There will be an opening meeting at 8:45 am. There will also be a lunch break, and teams will have the opportunity to try the various food options on nearby Thayer Street.
As of now there is a tentative field cap of 16 teams, but we are open to increasing that if there is more interest. College teams and high school teams are welcome to this tournament.
Ankush Bajaj will be the tournament director. He can be reached at
. I (Ujwal Punyamurtula) will also be staffing the tournament, and I can be reached at either [email protected] or (512) 970-7752.
The base entry fee for each team will be $120. There will be a $5 discount per working buzzer set, a $10 discount per 200 miles traveled one way, and a $5 discount per staffer. Please make all checks payable to Ankush Bajaj.
To register, email me (Ujwal) at [email protected]. Please include ILLIAC Registration in the email subject, the name of the school you will be playing for, the number of teams you would like to bring. If applicable, please also include the number of buzzer sets and the number of staffers you will be bringing (please bring staffers if you can, we're likely short).
Apologies for the late post.

Would fielding a house team not bring this to a viable field size?MaestroExtraordinaire98 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2019 10:59 am This tournament has been cancelled due to a lack of interest.

Re: ILLIAC at Brown
Normally, it would, but:
1) Yale has told me that they likely would not be able to make it to the tournament.
2) No one at Brown has expressed interest in playing on a house team for this tournament.

Re: ILLIAC at Brown
I don’t mean to impugn anyone, but in the future more advance notice would be helpful. Rutgers, for example, attended ILLIAC at JHU the day after PIANO and brought less players than anticipated because we weren’t sure this was happening (and I’ve talked to some other folks who have expressed similar sentiments). From what I gathered Providence isn’t super convenient on super late notice for many teams in the upper mid Atlantic like us, NYU, etc.
Obviously I don’t mean to blame anyone, shit happens; just figured I’d give some insight on why we, among others, can’t come. Providence is adorable and it’s dope to see Brown hosting again and I hope next year we can make it up!

Re: ILLIAC at Brown
I'd like to second what Emmett said. There probably would have been more interest if an announcement were posted more than 10 days before the tournament.
Even with no announcement, it would still be good to let everyone know the date of the tournament well in advance. The main announcement's list of mirrors was updated with the date of the Brown site sometime in the beginning of April, but since it was just an edit, we couldn't know about it unless we just so happened to be on that thread. In the future, if it's not possible to put up an announcement, it would perhaps be worth it to post a reply with the date.
