Piasa Bird Invite IV (PBI IV) @ Southwestern 1/12/19

Southwestern High School (Piasa, Illinois) will be hosting the Piasa Bird Invitational IV (PBI IV) on January 12, 2019. The PBI IV will be run on the 2018 Scottie set from Glasgow, Kentucky.

Each round will consist of 20 tossup questions with 20 3-part bonuses. The tournament will use 15-point "powers" (reward for an early enough buzz), and "negs" a 5-point penalty for preemptive, incorrect buzzes. Bonuses will not rebound.

For a 24 team field we will use four preliminary pools rebracket into two parallel playoff pools and four consolation pools (8 rounds). After Round 8, the top team from Championship Pool A will face off against the top team from Championship Pool B in a one ­game final, and the second ­place teams from the same pools will play a game for third place. Ties in the Championship Pools will be played off prior to the championship game.

Managment
Marshall Mullins will serve as Tournament Director for the PBI IV.

Fees
Fees are $65 for the first team and $60 for each subsequent team.

A $5 discount will be added for up to 3 working buzzer sets for a maximum discount of $15.

There will be an initial cap of 24 teams for this tournament. If there is interest and available staff, we will consider expanding the field.

A concession stand will be available on site for teams. There are no viable options to leave the campus during lunch break.

Based on the forecast for bad weather for Friday afternoon through Saturday, we will be postponing the Piasa Bird Invitational planned for this Saturday. The outlook for travel is not worth the risk involved.

We will reschedule the tournament for Monday, 21, 2019, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Registration will remain open through Friday, January 18, 2019, for any other teams that are interested in coming aboard.
