ANNOUNCEMENT: Quaker Fall Open IV @ Penn [EFT/WHAQ]

Post by mtebbe »

The quizbowl team at the University of Pennsylvania is pleased to announce our fourth-annual Quaker Fall Open, to be held on Penn's campus in Philadelphia, PA on Saturday, December 1st.

Divisions and Questions: This tournament will have two divisions: National and Open. The National division will use EFT (viewtopic.php?f=8&t=20808) while the Open division will use WHAQ III (viewtopic.php?f=109&t=21382). We highly encourage nationally competitive, experienced teams to sign up for the National division.

Let us know if you have any further questions about question sets and divisions; we are happy to address those on a case-by-case basis.

Fees:
$110 per team in the National division
$80 per team in the Open division
-$20 for a competent, experienced moderator who can stay all tournament
-$10 for teams traveling 200 or more miles
-$5 for each fully functional buzzer set
-$30 for the first team from a school that has not played at a pyramidal weekend quizbowl tournament (IU competitions do not count against this) since September 1st, 2015.

EFT is a college set and thus requires a slightly higher fee than usual.

Payment: Checks should be made out to our treasurer, "Nitin Rao" (preferred) or "Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania." We can provide invoices in advance to teams that need them as well as a mailing address (available on request).

Field Size: We have not decided on a field cap yet. A school may register up to 3 teams initially and any additional teams will be placed on a waitlist.

To Register: Please contact us at [email protected] for further information or to register. To register, please email us your school's name, the number of teams that you are bringing, the number of (working) buzzer systems that you can bring, and any moderators that you can bring. Before you register, be sure that you have talked to all team members who might be in attendance and confirmed that they are available to attend the tournament on that date. This is an SAT date.

Please let us know if you can help moderate! We will seek to have outside moderators reimbursed for the full cost of travel in addition to providing a light breakfast and lunch for all moderators (including school-provided ones).

Full logistical details will be sent to registered teams closer to the tournament date.

Thank you and hope to see you at our tournament in December!

I have updated the field lists for both divisions and set preliminary field caps. The caps are subject to expansion if there's enough interest, but please go ahead and register soon if you're planning to!

Congratulations to Monticello, who defeated Ithaca in a one-game final to win the National division, and to Manheim Township B and Manheim Township C, who tied for first in the Open division after declining to play a final.

I would like to thank all the teams who came to Penn to compete yesterday and all staffers, especially external staffers (Bern, Jon, Patrick, and Vishwa)!

Stats can be found here: http://hsquizbowl.org/db/tournaments/5457/
All Open stats have been posted. Stats for the first five rounds of Nationals have been posted and the rest will be posted later tonight. Feel free to PM or email me if you find any mistakes.

Thanks for playing the WHAQ III set, everybody! As the set is not clear, please join the "2018 WHAQ Discussion" private group if you want to discuss the set. (Go to your user control panel, click on usergroups, then find "2018 WHAQ Discussion" and join it)
