UGA Spring tournament March 25, 2006

This is the official announcement for the UGA Spring Tournament, to be held on Saturday, March 25, 2006, at Cedar Shoals HS in Athens.

The format will be four quarters (ala Brookwood's tournament), with questions written by members of both the UGA and Cedar Shoals Academic Teams.

We look to fill at least 36 teams in six 6-team divisions with some sort of playoff. If demand and readers are there, we will take more.

We realize this is also the same weekend as the FL NAQT State tournament, and that the next weekend is Spring Break for several ATL area schools. Ergo, we had to find the one weekend where we could get the maximum number of schools. We understand if you are unable to come.

Fees are $70 per team, limit three teams for now (unless we have room for more teams).

This tournament is open to any HS team with members grades 9-12.

If you cannot attend and wish to buy the packets, they are $25. They will be emailed to you the day of the tournament.

Some updates on march 25:
1- Not only is this the same day as Florida NAQT, but it's the same day as the South Carolina State Tournament. We're still committed to March 25 as April is Spring break for a lot of GA schools.
However, any school from anywhere is welcome to attend.

Sorry for the delay, we just hosted a tournament on
Jekyll Island and it is our Spring Break at UGA and
Clarke County.

The March 25 tournament is still on as of press time, and there has
been a format change. Instead of the four quarters
format, we will be using questions from UTC's recent
Haskins Tournament, which was held March 4. Seeing as
most of the teams coming to UGA Spring were at GATA
state that weekend, there's very little (if zero)
crossover. Questions are 20/20 TUs and bonuses. We will
most likely have boucebacks, but we'll make a more
concrete decision when we get the packets.

In terms of checks and such...if you want to wait and
pay the day of the tournament, that would be OK. We;re
about 90% certain the tournament will be a go, but if
for some unknown reason we have to cancel, we wont
have to worry about sending checks back (which we
would do given the short notice on this tournament and
such).

We still have some open spots, if anyone on this is
interested. Teams can comprise of 9-12 grades, so JV
players are welcome to come if they wish to, but keep
in mind there will be no distinction between JV and
Varsity- this is considered an "open" tournament.

We have been given ten rounds from UTC, so expect some
type of division format with playoffs. As always, all
teams will get copies of the questions, and mostly
likely those will be emailed the day of the tournament
(although we will have some paper copies for the
rooms, those most likely will be given to the teams
who survived the playoffs further in).

If you have any question, please do not hesitate to
email me. Even if it is Spring Break, I'll check my
mail religiously.

Hi,

We're looking for three more teams to fill in a division for this weekend. There are no late fees, so the cost is still 70 a team. If you're interested, please let me know within the next 24 hours. This will prevent the back up plan being two 7 team divisions (with byes) and only 8 teams going to the playoffs instead of a higher number.
