2016 ACF Fall New England at Brown (November 5, 2016)

Post by wnober »

Hello!

I am pleased to announce the New England site of ACF Fall 2016, to be held at Brown University on Saturday, 5 November 2016. ACF Fall is the year's premier introductory-level collegiate quizbowl tournament, and we hope that you can join us. This tournament will be held in Barus and Holley, on Brook St between George St and Waterman St; the same place that SCT was held in February. A campus map can be found here: http://brown.edu/Facilities/Facilities_Management/maps/. We hope to start registering teams around 8 AM and start matches promptly at 9. As of now, the field is capped at 16 teams. However, if there is enough interest we can look into increasing the cap.

Registration
Registration for this event has two steps:
First, please write to us at [email protected] with team name, number, and buzzer/staffer information.
Second, fill out the central ACF Fall registration form at this site with all relevant information.

Fees
ACF is currently debating a slight restructuring of its fee schedule. The final fee schedule will be announced by 1 September 2016. Teams can expect the base fee to increase by ~10%.

Packet Discounts/Penalties
Any team with at least two people on it who played a regular, collegiate, academic quizbowl tournament prior to September 1, 2015 is required to submit a packet. High school players are exempt from this definition, are not permitted to submit packets, and pay fees as determined by their site hosts.

Half-packet templates will be sent out to your team after you have submitted the registration form. If you have questions on the submission guidelines, email them to [email protected] and they’ll clarify.

Please submit packets to [email protected] and use “ACF Fall 2016: [Team Name]” in the subject line.

Submission schedule
The submission schedule is as follows:

11.59 PM PST September 10: -$30
11.59 PM PST September 24: -$15 (-$30 if optional)
11.59 PM PST October 8: no penalty (-$15 if optional)
11.59 PM PST October 15: +$25
11.59 PM PST October 22: +$50
After October 22: +$10/day until October 29; teams who are required to submit a packet and do not submit one by November 1 will not be allowed to play.

Payment
Payment for ACF Fall will be processed through the ACF treasurer, Gautam Kandlikar. He will get in touch with you about how much your team owes, how to pay for the tournament, etc. Please contact Gautam at [email protected] with any questions regarding payment.

Note Regarding High School Teams
High school teams are no longer allowed to compete in collegiate ACF Fall events.

For more information, refer to the Global Announcement of ACF Fall 2016 or email the editors at [email protected].

Hope to see you all in Providence.

Can someone from ACF explain the two person thing that's showing up in these announcements?

Update: Because we're strapped for buzzers right now we're lowering the cap to 14 teams. If more buzzers are available we'll change it back.

I'm staffing for UConn so we should be 2/0/1.

MIT A cleared the field to win outright. They also won the undergraduate and DII titles. Boston College finished second overall and are also undergraduates.

I've passed the scoresheets and the stats file back over to the Brown team.
