Livingston HS March Madness 2016 (NAQT IS) - March 19, 2016

Post by Guybo »

Hello everyone! Happy Holidays!

I am pleased to announce that Livingston HS, in Livingston, NJ, will be hosting its annual tournament - this year on Saturday, March 19, 2016.

http://www.hsquizbowl.org/db/tournaments/3503/

SET: We are going to be using NAQT set IS-154 (this will be used at E.O. Smith (CT)).

TEAMS: We can physically host up to 48 teams. However, we are going to have a soft cap at 36 teams and, if sufficient demand warrants and we are able to secure sufficient readers and buzzers, will up the number of teams to 42 with a hard cap of 48 teams. Initially, I will take a cap of 3 teams per school and, by February 22, approximately one month before the tournament, will put all additional teams per school into the field. For the moment, all teams beyond 3 will be put on the wait list.

ROUNDS: We are planning on a round robin of preliminary rounds (depending on number of teams) followed by lunch and then playoffs to follow. We aim to let each team have at least 10 rounds.

START TIME: Check in/registration between 8 - 8:30 with a moderator meeting at 8:30 and a welcome at 8:45 with round 1 to start at 9:00. We aim to be done with the tournament by 6:00.

FOOD: A great, high quality bagel (with butter and cream cheese) and orange juice breakfast will be provided free of charge. We will be selling pizzas in the morning (order them that morning upon arriving to check in) at $12 per pie (please bring cash and as close to exact change as possible), as well as selling slices, waters, sodas, DELICIOUS home made baked goods, and other food/snacks throughout the day, most all of which will cost $1 each. This is our team fundraiser so we would appreciate your support!

FEES:
$80 for the first team
$70 for each additional team from the same school
Discounts of $15 for each EXPERIENCED moderator (as needed) and $10 for each buzzer set (as needed)
Max discount of $35 per school

HOW TO REGISTER: HOW TO REGISTER: Registration will constitute a TEAM COACH/ADVISOR filling out the following Google Form:
http://goo.gl/forms/Mg5wu0vkCY

This confirms your attendance and registration as well as how many (if any) buzzer systems and/or moderators you will be able to bring. Our email is [email protected] which you can use for any further inquires. Information/field updates will also be posted and updated on this hsquizbowl.org forum here so please check/monitor this. Please understand that posting on the forum does not constitute officially registering nor any official communication with the team. Email is the best way to communicate any possible concerns or questions.

PAYMENT: Please make all checks out to "Livingston High School" and either bring with you to the tournament or mail to the below address at my (Guy Rabner) attention. Please try to make sure that payment is in by tournament time. If you require a pre-tournament invoice in order to have a check cut, please let us know ASAP or by February 22, so that we can send you the invoice in sufficient time.

Livingston High School is located at 30 Robert H. Harp Drive, Livingston, NJ 07039-2634. We're close to major interstates and only a 1/2 hour drive to Manhattan.

Looking forward to seeing you in March! Wish for no snow and nice weather, and joyous tidings!

With a little less than a month left before tournament time, East Brunswick's 4th team has been placed into the field and there are currently 30 teams registered, only 6 spots left before we hit our initial cap of 36 teams. (see field updated in previous post) Sign up soon so you can assure yourself of a spot! We can increase the field up to 48 teams but ONLY with sufficient, assured team interest and moderator/buzzer availability as we get closer. Stay tuned.

With a little more than 3 weeks left before the tournament date, the tournament has reached its initial cap of 36 teams. However, please feel free and continue to register as we will consider expanding the field (to as many as 48 if needed) if there is sufficient interest from schools and enough moderators to read questions. At this point we have enough buzzers for up to 48 teams. If you are registered above, please confirm that you will, in fact, be attending the tournament and that your number of teams, etc. is correct and confirmed. There is nothing worse for a tournament to have last minute drops or no shows as it wreaks havoc on a bracket! Thank you!

With 12 days left before our tournament, an email was sent out to all coaches/teams to please confirm your attendance (and buzzers and moderators) to our tournament by replying to the email. We would prefer that teams confirm by the end of this week so that we can potentially expand our tournament's number of teams and/or put teams on the waiting list into the tournament. We don't want a recurrence of what, unfortunately happened to Mr. Pinyan and Bergen this past weekend with so many last minute drops that severely weakened his field and made the running of his tournament more difficult. Two weeks is a reasonable amount of time for coaches and players to be able to make commitments to this. Thank you!

This being said, we would encourage teams to continue to register for out tournament (see registration link above) as we hope to expand to 42 teams by next Monday and, even potentially to 48 teams if demand warrants this. We're looking forward to the tournament!
