Oh my lord, the people on Twitter claiming that Matt really lost because the DD wager of "five" really meant "five thousand". This one guy seems to be insisting that since Matt's general strategy is to find the Daily Doubles early to get a big lead, he couldn't possibly have bet $5, never mind that every other question in the category had gone dead.

I was disappointed in how badly that sports category was failed. DUKE Snider, Bob KNIGHT, EARL Anthony (OK, I wouldn't have pulled that one, ever). We'll never find out, but I wonder if the $400 clue was Prince Fielder (and whether that would've helped the contestants see more clearly what was meant by "Sports Nobility").
This was a board which could have spelled the end for Matt, had the other two contestants had any clue on the pop culture material. Still, Alison was within range and with a category like "Movie Characters", I spent the commercial break wondering if Alison had a chance to pull it off... until that total gimme of a Final Jeopardy clue came up.

Did anyone in the DC area catch Matt on "Good Morning Washington" this morning on local ABC? How was it?

I like Matt, just not enough to wake up at 7:00 AM to see him on TV.

A quiz bowler who memorizes lists, never actually reads poems, and watches Jeopardy sporadically WOULD think that "One Art" is the answer to that question.

Bishop won a Pulitzer in 1956. Check! Bishop was a lesbian. Check! But "One Art" - write it! - is hardly a tirade.

Really amused by the idea that quizbowlers memorize Pulitzer dates--if anything, that'd be something I might go over while specifically studying for Jeopardy!

Probably as opposed to looking things up on Wikipedia and pretending you're smarter than then person who's answering tons of questions right and stacking mad cash while you post on Jeopardy pretending you're better somehow.

I had the "playing Jeopardy against Matt Jackson" dream last night. I was only $500 behind him after the end of regular Jeopardy, in large part because I swept the "Seabirds" category.

Double Jeopardy had both a "Green Grapes" and "Red Grapes" category, that was literally all just clue crew questions of the format "I'm here in [country] where they grow this variety of grape". Yeah, as a teetotaler I had no idea what the heck was going on, but Matt Jackson sure did.

I had a final chance when I got a daily double in the "Gourds" category. They showed me a picture of a gourd that looked like a human face with a large nose that grows in the Everglades. I guessed "What is a nose gourd". Nope, it was called a Florida gourd. I had $0.

But "One Art" - write it! - is hardly a tirade.
Meh, there are people for whom pretty much any assertion of homosexuality is some sort of gay supremacy thing (same with other minorities). The clue was about what a critic said, not the actual content of the work.

Anyways! Here are the Matt-Jackson-related conspiracy theories I've seen so far:

-He is being fed the answers, either by the show or a third party
-Jeopardy is ensuring that he gets both Daily Doubles back to back
-They are intentionally putting him up against weak opponents
-His answer of "Bayeux Tapestry!" had an exclamation mark and thus was not actually in the form of a question (might actually be a joke theory)
-And, of course, that sports Daily Double should have cost him 5000 instead of 5 (there's this one person still tweeting at the official J! account about this lmao)

All in the name of having a winning streak to give Jeopardy better ratings. I suspect people said similar things about other long-running champions, but this is the first time I've paid attention to Jeopardy talk outside of quizbowl spaces.

Well I was all set to add two conspiracy theories, based on them originally accepting "al" (which shocked me, and looked to surprise Matt); and that the end of Double Jeopardy was perfectly timed when Matt took back the lead. However, that turns out to have been a curse. Had he been in second, most likely he makes the small wager and Michael makes the big wager.

Instead we can add "Jeopardy rigged it for Matt to lose", either by planting someone who knew the answers beforehand or somehow convincing him to throw the game.

Just thought this would be the perfect time to say that Matt Jackson will be back on Jeopardy! for the Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions from November 9-20, 2015! He will be going against John Schultz and Jennifer Giles on Wednesday, November 11, 2015, so be sure to tune in to see him then and see if he will be moving on to the semifinals!

That "famous triples" category gave me flashback to mid-2000s NAQT bonuses (and, by extension, the mock NAQT packet that someone--I think Rob Carson?--put together some time back).

Final Jeopardy was a traveshamockery, but luckily Matt was well above any mental cutoff he had.

In fact, you know what? I'm gonna give my own anecdote. One time after a church concert, some lady came up to me and said "you did good". I had no idea what she was on about until discovering that she was really talking about my sister, who had been performing.

One of the songs she sang?
