Connecticut Invitational VII (2/20/2016)

Post by chris.choi »

Hello,

My name is Christopher Choi, and I am a senior at E.O. Smith High School. I have been playing quizbowl for all four years of my high school career and have been the captain of my team since September. Mr. Robert Pirrie will be indisposed for the rest of the year, and so for the rest of the school year, I will be running the E.O. Smith High School Quizbowl team. As such I will be scheduling all events that the team from E.O. Smith will attend/schedule.

With that having been said, I am pleased to announce that the E.O. Smith Quizbowl team will be hosting the Connecticut Invitational VII tournament, which will take place on February 20th, 2016 at E.O. Smith High School in Storrs, CT. We will be using the NAQT IS-154 set this year. This is the seventh annual tournament with the purpose of promoting quiz bowl in southern New England. New England teams are strongly encouraged to attend.
Registration will begin at 8:30 AM with the first round beginning at 9:30 AM. Though it is difficult to know exactly when the tournament will end, it is safe to assume sometime in the early evening around 5 or 6 PM.

Registration information for the tournament is as follows:

Base fee, first team: $80
Additional teams: $70
Working buzzer system: -$5 each
Moderator: -$5 each
New Team discount (for teams that didn't attend a tournament during the 2014-2015 season): -$10 each

Please make checks payable to: E. O. Smith Academic Quiz Bowl. Please plan to pay on arrival at the tournament.

A copy of the registration form can be obtained by emailing the tournament director at [email protected]. You may also use this email for any questions you may have about the tournament.

For those concerned about transportation, a map and driving directions will be sent upon registering. Storrs, CT is located in the Northeastern part of the state, 40 minutes from Hartford, 1 hour, 45 minutes from Boston and 2 hours 45 minutes from New York City (it’s also about 3 hours from Hanover, NH).

We hope that you will join us February 20th, 2016 for Connecticut Invitational VII at E.O. Smith High School in Storrs, CT. Please email me if you have any questions.

E.O. Smith High School: 1235 Storrs Road, Storrs, CT, 06268.

We are currently hoping for a field of 24 teams, but that can be expanded if more teams are interested.

We have just received Gold accreditation from PACE for the CT INV VII, meaning that the top 20% of the teams in the winning playoff bracket will qualify for PACE National Scholastic Championship (NSC) on the weekend of June 4th-5th at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare outside of Chicago.

Due to logistical issues with the school system in Storrs, we will not be able to have a reserve/backup date for this tournament as originally anticipated. There will only be a tournament on February 20th.

Seeing as how the MIT Winter Tournament is on the 27th, that may conflict with the pool if the backup date happens to be needed.

Thanks to the E.O. Smith team for hosting this tourney yesterday. It was a ton of fun and all the moderators and staff were really helpful.

Looking forward to seeing the combined stats. Thanks again to Chris for directing this.
