Re: VCU Open at Michigan - August 8
We're using this spreadsheet to track side event sign-ups, right? https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... 1915203404
If so, there are still a lot of free agents not on teams for all of the events. Can you guys please form teams ASAP so we can get things scheduled?

I hereby declare myself a team for Modern and VICO, and invite literally anybody, even Chris Ray, to add themselves to my team.

On Friday afternoon, I will make the schedules for SHEIKH and VICO, and will therefore randomly form teams from any free agents who aren't on teams yet at that point.

Hey, are any of the attendees at this site driving over from the Detroit area on Saturday morning? I would appreciate a pickup from Novi if possible.
Let me know. Will compensate gas monies.

Re: VCU Open at Michigan - August 8
There are currently 17 people on the spreadsheet for VICO, which is 1 mod 4. Is there anyone currently on the free agent list who wouldn't mind staffing instead of playing, or alternatively, does the field as a whole mind if there is one 5-person team?
EDIT: It just occurred to me that while Mike Sorice isn't listed on the spreadsheet, he did express interest in playing all the side events in this thread. So a third possibility is to do 6 teams of 3 - but that would involve breaking up the two 4-person teams that currently exist. Thoughts?

Do people want to run bouncebacks at this site? I wouldn't be unopposed to it unless everyone thinks it would make things run too late.

Given our staffing situation, I'm going to nix the idea of using bouncebacks at this tournament, in the interest of keeping things running smoothly.

Sorice confirmed that he wants to play, making 18 people, so everyone who wants to play can if we do 6 teams of 3. We can figure out the teams tomorrow.

Re: VCU Open at Michigan - August 8
I have semi-arbitrarily formed teams for We Have Never Been Modern. There's still one open spot. Or if 9 people are mysteriously not signed up we could expand to 6 teams, but that seems unlikely.

SHEIKH happened, but we didn't have a stats person, so I'll do the stats and post them at some point soon. A team consisting of me, Mike Cheyne, Carsten and Andrew Hart defeated Rob, Trevor, Mike Bentley and Ryan (replacing Auroni) in a one-game final.
For people playing stuff tomorrow, show up at the same place at 8:30 for VICO.

The Will/Rob/Auroni team cleared the field at VICO. The Rob/Andrew/Mike/Bryan team won a one-game final at We Have Never Been Modern. I've posted the stats for the latter.

Re: VCU Open at Michigan - August 8
We played Tricon on Sunday afternoon after VICO/Modern as a shootout split into two rooms. There are some stats for the room I was in (I have no idea whether the other room kept scores).
All 8 packets were read. Carsten read 2 packets; Will Nediger read 1; Dylan read 1; Mike Bentley read 2; and I read 2. Carsten had to leave before we were done and thus missed roughly the last 1.5 packets. In some packets that were not powermarked, the readers awarded powers at their discretion. With that in mind, here are the total scores. While I have enough written down to reconstruct the number of 20s/15s/10s/-5s people got, I don't care enough to do so because I am currently in a state of severe quizbowl hangover.
Doylan - 300
Trevor - 245
Morgan - 235
Auroni - 215
Will Nediger - 185
Foster - 125
Mike Bentley - 115
Casey - 80
Ashvin - 55
Carsten - 40
We also played the remaining CO packets (Editors 1, Finals 1, Finals 2) as a shootout split into two rooms on Saturday evening after VCUO/SHEIKH. There are scores for the room I was in; I don't know about the other room.
Ike - 4/9/8 = 110
Seth - 4/5/2 = 100
Trevor - 2/5/3 = 65
Selene - 0/6/0 = 60
Mike Bentley - 3/3/3 = 60
Alston Boyd - 2/1/2 = 30
Ashvin - 1/1/1 = 20
Ryan - 1/1/4 = 5
Foster - 0/0/0 = 0
Matt Lafer - 0/2/5 = -5
