Can we get an update on packet submissions? We turned our packet in two weeks ago and it still isn't reflected in the spreadsheet.

Borglum, Westbrook, Beyer, Palmer
Brownstein, Koo, Teitler, Lawrence
Alston, Asher, Wang, Yu
Sorice, Ike, Will, Billy

We just had a player drop a couple of days ago - we're scrambling to get his stuff done, but it'll be in soon.

So there are currently four available spots for persons? Is it worth hashing that out in the matchmaking thread?

Can we get an update, either in the Excel spreadsheet or a post, outlining the current field with submitted packets, dropped players, and added players all factored in?

As far as dropped/added players, you are all on your own with that.

I have not yet received any of the outstanding packets mentioned in the last post. It's two weeks before the tournament, so I have no patience for bullshit at this point. You should submit your packet if you want to play. The miscreant teams are:

Yetman et al.
Canada
Trevor Davis et al.
Minarik et al.

If it's last year, it's Cobb Hall, which if Harper Hall is a full 10 on the UGH scale, Cobb pulls in at about a 5.

The Davis and Minarik teams both submitted packets last night. Yetman et al and Canada are on the clock. If your packet is not in my inbox when I wake up on Thursday morning, you won't be playing this tournament. I'm serious.

Are you certain you didn't receive our packet? To the best of my knowledge, we finished the packet and submitted it on Saturday night. If that's not the case, I'll submit it as soon as I've left work and have access to the Google ecosystem (i.e., 7:45PM this evening - assuming one of my teammates doesn't see this much earlier and submit accordingly).

I'm not on this team, but "Canada" believes they've submitted according to a facebook convo I'm part of.

Ok, it would be cool if whoever sent the packet could either re-send it or let me know who they are so I know where to look for it in my email.

Yes, Patrick, who was finishing up his part late last night/early this morning, apparently sent it in already. Should I send it again?

Email it to me, please; I assume it only got sent to Eric.

Aaaaand I've found the Yetman packet, which had somehow gotten lost in the churn. So all packets have been submitted, good effort, good job everyone.

Do the folks organizing this tournament have lunch arrangements for Saturday? With 17 rounds it's important to have some plan that is real and somewhat efficient.

There will be some sort of lunch for the staff. We'll likely give you an hour or slightly less for lunch, which should be plenty of time to skedaddle to 57th where the food is and back.

Gaurav has almost certainly dropped from my team - we now need a fourth. If you are interested in playing with us and will be in Chicago next weekend, email me at [email protected]. Please note "expressing interest" with a forum post is not a satisfactory means of communicating you want to play a tournament, and by doing so you will risk being waitlisted, or worse.

EDIT: Alston Boyd has joined our team. Fortunately no one incurred any penalties during this process. This time.

For reference, if you're playing everything this weekend, here are the costs.

(your base CO fee, consult the spreadsheet)
Fine Arts: $10 per person
RILKE: $10 per person, $6 if you want to get pizza
History: if you wrote a packet $0, consult with Jeff otherwise

To spell things out, if you are playing everything and want lunch on Sunday, do everyone a solid and either bring at least $26 cash or have a checkbook available.

When they changed the team names, the first column got alphabetized. So, none of the fees match up.

This is a great post. For the love of god, BRING MONEY! There's nothing worse than showing up to a quizbowl tournament, especially one where no one is playing under the aegis of a club, unprepared to compensate the editors and writers for their time and effort in producing their tournaments. You're there to play these tournaments, and you've already paid hundreds of dollars to airlines, hotels, car rental places, gas stations, etc. just to be there. Don't prevent the people whose work is the only reason you're there from getting paid their tens of dollars simply because you didn't have the foresight to bring money.

Very quickly about money. I collect U.S. dollar coins (the regular ones, nothing fancy), $2 bills, and I'm missing 5 State quarters (Alabama, Hawaii, Iowa, Oklahoma, and Utah) and 4 Territories (D.C., Guam, Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands), so if these are burning holes in your pocket at home, I am happy to trade you for cash you can then pass onto the hardworking CO ecosystem.
Since I'm shamelessly made this into a bit of a swap meet anyway, I also have a Penguin Classics copy of Sons and Lovers I'd love to trade.

In summary, as the other posters have said, BRING MONEY.

Mike, are you flying out of ORD? I have a hellish 6:30AM flight and am planning on just spending the night there, so if you also have an early flight you could join me in misery.

I'm flying out of Midway at 5:50 AM on Monday morning. Looks like the rental car I foolishly booked can't be returned until 5:00 AM on Monday morning so I will also just be spending the night in the airport.

It seems like now's a good time to re-pose the following:

Also, we should decide on projected start times, or at very least a start time for whichever of these fine side-bars of this weekend's quizbowl debauch is leading off. I notice lunch plans have been made (which is great - thanks!) and these seem to imply that History is after lunch, which is after Literature. Is that accurate? Is Fine Arts before both, after both, after lunch but before History, or something else?!

PS: Stop enabling my tardiness!

Baller! (If I missed that upthread, I'm sorry.) Shall we pick a start time, then?

I was thinking everyone get there by 8:30, and I'll try to be there a bit before (with some Chicago people, hopefully?) to set things up so we're ready to go. That said, my train pulls into Union Station at 7:50 (I'm planning to Uber down) so It would be nice to have someone serve as my backup if I'm late. Also, if all the staffers could secure access to a laptop and provide me with email addresses, I should be able to send the set out Saturday night to save some time. Basically, I'd like for everything to be ready right at 8:30, except grabbing schedules and splitting into rooms.

Since I will have the keys for the rooms, I'm going to try to be there at 8 AM on both mornings, to make sure people can get in and we can start setting up in a timely fashion.

Any advice on parking, for those of us who've never been here before?
