ONQBA transition

Post by bsmith »

I will be stepping down from the presidency of the ONQBA on June 30. It is time to transition to someone with more modern quizbowl views and with a fresher take on outreach. I appreciate all the help and participation over the past four years, and I do know that there are good people that will take on leadership roles in the Ontario scene.

I will coordinate a replacement election. All executive positions are available as well, though some current holders will be seeking new posts. Details of the election process will be sent to ONQBA participants, so if you are an ONQBA event player or staffer that wishes to be on a voting list, contact me at president -AT- onqba.ca (I will still hold this address until the transition occurs). Nominations for positions will close on April 30, with an election shortly thereafter.

Unofficially, there is some desire by the Ottawa crowd to have a balance in the executive between Ottawa and SW Ontario. There will likely be some sort of slate of candidates formed, which may be addressed at the Ontario university "state of the union" post-Hybrid.

Any nominations to be on the ballot are due April 30. All positions are still open for candidates. You can sign up to be a voter anytime before the voting period (probably beginning May 13, after SchoolReach provincials). An unopposed executive will simply have a yes/no approval; otherwise there will be an online election.

The current ballot is:

President: Patrick Liao
Secretary: Brendan McKendy
Treasurer: Peter Cordeiro, Ted Gan
Webmaster: Anubhav Srivastava, Joe Su

It's the executive, stupid. One of the first things I'm doing as president is to expand the executive, so if you don't have a position now, there's still hope.

The ballot will be available to those who signed up at approximately midnight Eastern and will be open until 11:59 PM on the following Tuesday (May 19, after Victoria Day).

Any Ontario quizbowlers who did not already sign up (or thought they did, but didn't get an invite upon the ballot's opening) may contact me by email and I believe I can add a batch of invites mid-poll.

I would like to thank everyone for participating in this election and believe that with Patrick, Brendan, Ted, and Joe at the helm, this will usher in a new era of growth for high school and collegiate quizbowl in Ontario.
