Bobcat Challenge @ OSHS 3/7/15

Hello all,

The Scholars' Bowl team at Oliver Springs High School in beautiful Oliver Springs, TN, would like to make an announcement for our 2nd annual Bobcat Challenge to be held on March 7th, 2015!! Please keep in mind that this announcement is preliminary and further details will be forthcoming. However, we will cap the field at 20 teams. We have just made arrangements with NAQT to use IS-145A which should be a very competitive set.

Field (as of 3/2):
Happy Valley (2) (TN)
Farragut (2) (TN) (Defending Champion)
Oak Ridge (2) (TN)
Gate City (2) (VA)
L&N Stem (2) (Knoxville, TN)
McCallie (2) (TN)


The fee structure is as follows:

$70 per team
-$10 for an additional team (We have limited space, so we'll do this via wait list. We'll have to hold the max at 2 for now.)
-$5 for Volunteers (Max of 2)
-$5 per functioning buzzer system. (Max of 2)
-$10 for teams who travel more than 200 miles one way (per Google Maps)

Minimum for 1 team: $40

Any interested schools (Middle/East TN, Western NC, and SE/Central KY, especially) who think they would like to attend, please post reply to us here or contact us at [email protected]. We look forward to hearing from you!!!

Webb is good for one varsity team at your tournament. Maybe two.

Dren, are you by any prayer interested in bringing a team to Webb on February 14? Several local teams, including Webb, are scrambling to get in one more tournament to make the required 4 for state, and I am thinking of offering one final shot.
SWAG V: A Desperation Shot at the Final Buzzer is tentatively scheduled for the 14th and if we go through with it I would love to have you and your team participate.

I can ask, but we've got Cookeville PBS next weekend (and hopefully, the weekend after that.). Two of my best players have part-time jobs, and asking them to take three weekends off is going to be a hardship. Plus, my wife would not be a fan. The best answer I can give you is a very tepid maybe. I, of course, would love to see THE Webb School (That's right Knox Webb, I just called you out.) at my tournament. I'll let you know.

Here's the schedule for the 7th.

Doors will be open by 8:00AM EST.

Registration 8:20-8:50
Meeting 8:55-9:00
Rounds begin @ 9:05

I have discussed the possibility of the OSHS Band Boosters having our Concession Stand open for lunch, but I have not been able to speak with anyone since we've been out of school. I would, however, prefer that everyone have lunch on site. I'll let you know when/if that's finalized.

We will try to make scheduling concessions for teams traveling from the West, but there's only so much we'll be able to do.

Directions:

From the West:

Take I-40 East to exit 347 (Harriman/Rockwood/Hwy. 27). Turn left onto 27 North. Follow 27 North through Harriman. A few miles outside of Harriman, 27 splits off to the left. Stay to the right on TN Hwy. 61. After 12 miles (approx.) turn right at the light onto Winter Gap Road (You'll see a sign for the school). Cross the railroad tracks and turn right onto Kingston Avenue (the OS Historical Society will be in front of you to the rt.). Follow Kingston Avenue and the school will be on your left.

From Chattanooga: Take U.S. 27 North. Same directions as above once you reach Harriman.

From Knoxville: Take Exit 376B I-140/Hwy. 162 (Pelissippi Parkway) to Oak Ridge. Go through Oak Ridge into OS. Go over the viaduct and turn left at the light onto Winter Gap Road. See above instructions.

Congratulations to Farragut A for winning this year's edition of the Bobcat Challenge with a record of 10-0! Thanks to all who attended and volunteered to make it such a success, and we hope to see all you back next year. Full stats will be posted in the coming days, but here is a brief synopsis.
