Texas QB Camp Tournament mirror at uWaterloo (10th August)

Post by Deepika Goes From Ranbir To Ranveer »

uWaterloo is pleased to welcome teams from wherever to attend an open mirror of Texas QuizBowl Camp Tournament on the 10th of August (original announcement here : viewtopic.php?f=8&t=16037)

The fee structure is as follows :

Team Base Fee : $120
Buzzer discount : $10
(Proficient) Reader discount : $30
Shorthanded team discount : $20 per missing player

A mirror of VCU Open (original announcement here : viewtopic.php?f=8&t=16013) will be happening the previous day on Saturday, the 9th of August.

The field is capped at 9 teams (since we have 4 rooms booked), although be aware we're expecting a small number of teams at this tournament. The tournament HQ will be MC 4060 (that's the 4th floor of the hideous Math and Computer science building).

I will not be at this tournament myself, but a team of various members of the Waterloo Club, past and present, will be ensuring the quality of the tournament. This includes Aaron Dos Remedios, KiraKiraKira28, Arjun Sondhi, etc., working under Huma Zafar's TDing.

To register, post here!

Toronto will have at least one team for this, even if it's just me.

I may come to just help out or watch on Saturday and play on Sunday. I feel the level of tournament is more akin to my level. Still figuring out who will be on my team.

Could we please get a field update for this please? I presume it's the same as the VCU Open field, but that isn't a good assumption

I propose that we consider running some kind of draft to get people to play with new people.

You could also just hook up with another team and swap players to form two semi-new teams.

I would prefer this. Anyone who wants to play with new people can simply contact said new people while other teams continue to play as pre-planned.

The official field is the teams registered in this thread :

McGill
Colonel By
Toronto

However, there will likely be more teams put together from those attending VCU Open.

Imma play. Don't know/care with whom. New people would be interesting, but I can also fly solo if need be.

We played Landscapes after this simultaneously with Tricon.

Here are the scores from Landscapes, played as a shootout on slappers, so buzzer races were decided *somehow*.

I won rounds 1,6,7,8; Jay won rounds 2,3,5; Aaron won round 4. We played with negs.

The final scores were:
Jay 290
Joe 265
Aaron 110 on 5.5 packets
Andrew 95
Jesse 55
Shuying 20

Peter Liu showed up somewhere in the last packet and answered one tossup correctly.

Much fun was had by all.

In the main tournament (5 teams, double round robin), the team of Jay, Joe and Huma went 7-1, earning the advantage against the team of Derek, Sebastian, Aidan and myself at 6-2. In the advantaged final, Jay'/Joe/Huma won the first game to win the tournament.

Thanks to UW for hosting and everyone for coming out.

Stats are up:

http://www.hsquizbowl.org/db/tournaments/2291/

Edit: Some of the stat columns (P/N and G/N) are incorrect I imagine because of the addition of the superpowers column. Others (TUH) are appearing as the number of tossups having been heard by the player in round 10. I don't know why this occurs, as I was of the belief that SQBS assumes that all rounds have 20 tossups unless specified.

I would like to thank everyone who helped come out and play this tournament. I would like to thank all the staffers, and especially would like to thank Aaron for helping solve the great dilemma about how the organization of the tournament would go. It was fun and enjoyable, though I cannot say it played to my strengths.
