WKU Hilltopper Invitational (Bowling Green, KY, 10/18/2014)

Post by mriggle »

The WKU Academic Competition Club will be hosting the fifth annual WKU Hilltopper Invitational on October 18, 2014. Last year we had 22 teams from Kentucky, Tennessee, and Ohio in attendance, and we're hoping to have a similarly competitive field once again this year.

Location: Cherry Hall, Western Kentucky University (Bowling Green, KY)

Questions: We will be mirroring the set that the University of Maryland wrote for their spring tournament. Details about the set are located here.

Fee: $70 per team
$20 moderator discount
$10 scorekeeper discount
$10 new to good quizbowl discount (Kentucky teams only)
$10 out-of-state discount (non-Kentucky teams only)
Minimum fee: $30

Every school that attends must bring a buzzer system.

Payment: We would prefer you to pay on the day of the tournament, rather than sending a check ahead of time. We will accept cash or checks made out to the Academic Competition Club. We're willing to be flexible, but if we don't have payment at least two weeks after the event, we will attach a $20 fee to your bill.

Format: Rounds will consist of 20 tossups and 20 bonuses (non-bounceback). Powers and negs will both be used. Other details will be determined closer to the date of the tournament once we have a better idea of the field size.

At the moment, I'm going to cap the field at 20 teams, but expect that to potentially rise if necessary as long as we can find enough staffers.

To register, or if you have any questions, send us an email at [email protected].

We've reached 20 teams in the field, and we'll go ahead and expand the field cap to 24 teams (and possibly further if there is enough demand).

Due to some unexpected circumstances, I'll be taking over the director operations on Saturday. I wouldn't expect to see many changes in how things are run. Anyway, we've got 16 teams currently in the field. If you'd like to register we can fit in a few more. If you have to drop, we'll need to know ASAP, but since we've talked to most of you recently I hope that is unnecessary. For any questions, changes in plans, etc. please email us at [email protected]

Congrats to Ezell-Harding for defeating Gatton A in the first game of an advantaged final to win the 5th annual Hilltopper Invitational. Glasgow took 3rd, led by Olivia Kiser's 140 PPG in the prelims. Prelim and playoff stats are on the DB, and combined stats (including the final) should be up relatively soon. Thanks to all the teams for coming out today, and a huge thanks to all our staff (many of whom drove in from a couple hours away) for making this tournament run smoothly.

Hope to see you all at WKU for our other tournaments this year!

This was an enjoyable tournament! Despite the initial delays and lunch rush, the tournament was well run, and I look forward to returning for the Fall JV Tournament.

Also congratulations to Ezell-Harding for the well-deserved victory.
