Geography Monstrosity 6 (May 30, Chicago)

Post by Important Bird Area »

The all-geography HSNCT side event will be returning for a sixth consecutive year, in its usual timeslot (10 pm to midnight, Friday May 30th, after the conclusion of HSNCT scrimmages).

1) Packet submission is optional (but encouraged). I will tentatively plan for five teams; please contact me if you would like to write questions for this event (partial packets and even isolated questions are ok). I will start assembling packets (from submissions and from my stockpile of outrageous geography answers) on Wednesday after HSNCT is at the printers.

2) This year's edition of GM will again feature bonuses; each packet will be 10/10.

Distribution:

2/2 North America
1/1 Latin America and the Caribbean
2/2 Europe
1/1 Asia
1/1 Africa
3/3 your choice (including: Australia/Oceania/Antarctica, minor islands, common links, fictional geography, exo- and astro-geography, and/or real social science that actual geographers study)

(Editor's packet(s) may vary slightly from this distribution, depending on precisely what obscure geographic features are found in my notebook/haunt my dreams in the next ten days.)

To register, please email me (jeff.hoppes at gmail) or post in this thread.

I will play this. I'll probably make a team once I can drag enough other SoCal players into this. Also, I will write questions because I have infinite free time right now.

Possibly more to come.

That's enough players to run two rooms at a time. Is anyone interested in volunteering to moderate?

Congratulations to the team of David Madden/David Yuan/Anton Karpovich/Alex Jacob/Bunnie Hadsall, which went undefeated to win the 6th edition of Geography Monstrosity!

Stats are here.

My thanks to Ben Dillon of Saint Joseph for moderating, and to everyone who wrote questions for the set: Corry Wang, Nicholas Karas, Chris Chiego, Larissa Kelly, and Gabe Brison-Tresize.

I'll read this set in the irc late next week for those who were unable to join us at HSNCT. In addition, hosts of summer tournaments who are interested in mirroring this set (40/40 of difficult geography questions) should contact me for details.
