SUBMIT at UC Berkeley [3/8/14]

Post by i never see pigeons in wheeling »

Hello everyone,

This is the official announcement for the Submission-Utilizing Berkeley/Maryland Invitational Tournament (SUBMIT) mirror to be held at UC Berkeley on Saturday, March 8. This event will be a packet submission tournament aiming to be roughly the same difficulty as last year's Terrapin Invitational and Western Invitational Tournament, and it will be co-edited by specific members of the Maryland team (Brian McPeak, Arun Chonai, Ophir Lipschitz, Dan Puma, Chris Manners, and Isaac Hirsch) and Berkeley team (Ankit Aggarwal and Tanay Kothari).

The packet submission requirements for this tournament are the same as that of ACF: "Any team with at least one person on it who played a regular, collegiate, academic quizbowl tournament (either as a college student or as a high school student) prior to September 1, 2012 is required to submit a packet."

For details about packet submission, distribution, and other information about the set, see viewtopic.php?f=8&t=14996&hilit=submit.

Base fee: $100
Travel discount: $10 off per 200 miles traveled (one-way as determined by Google)
Buzzer discount: $10 off per working buzzer
Moderator discount: $10 off per moderator (contact me beforehand if you plan on bringing a moderator)

This site of SUBMIT is open, which means that there are no restrictions on the people who may play this event (players from different schools and even people unaffiliated with any school may play on the same team). Please note, however, that if your team is writing a packet, it may not be shared with anyone outside your team.

To register, please email me at ankit[dot]aggarwal[at]berkeley[dot]edu. Please include team number and any discounts you may be eligible for in the email. We'll send out e-mails with more information as the tournament approaches. I look forward to seeing everyone on March 8!

Field:
UC Berkeley (2)
University of Washington (1)
Stripes of laudanum and aloe balls
Stanford (1)
Bellarmine College Preparatory (1)
Peanut Butter and Jelly Hoagie (HS chimera team)

By the way, any word on the possibility of a Cane Ridge Revival mirror on the Sunday after this?

We anticipate that Stanford, Bellarmine, and an open team of high schoolers will attend this tournament.

Cane Ridge is definitely happening, right? Are you going to post an announcement for it?

On Saturday, teams should arrive at 205 Dwinelle Hall at 9AM for registration; we plan to begin at 9:30AM.

On Sunday, teams should arrive at 183 Dwinelle Hall at 9AM for registration; we plan to begin at 9:30AM.

Ankit will send out an email in the near future to the teams.

Stats for SUBMIT are now up.

Congrats to Stanford A for their victory over UW in the first game of an advantaged final, and thanks to all staffers!

Thanks to Berkeley for hosting. It was good to be able to play tournament after ~1.75 years.
