I commend you for using google forms for your registration, but how are you going to know how many teams from each school are JV or Varsity?

Also, is there any sort of logistical information that Charter could provide to teams at this point? (rounds, timings, playoff formats, etc). We'd appreciate anything.
EDIT: If our team chooses not to hear 129A in any form at CSWiFT, is it possible to receive some sort of documentation clarifying this in case another tournament opts to use that set?

Are there any restrictions as to who can play the JV set or the Varsity set, or is it by choice?

(JK...I am not the captain and no we are obviously not doing this...)
Good point though Noah...I think we will need to email each team and figure out how many of their teams they intend to place in the JV bracket. Thanks for pointing this out!

Each school can choose which of their teams will play the JV, and which of their teams will play the Varsity set. That being said, JV teams should probably be made up of players in their first year or two of quizbowl, and Varsity teams should be made of experienced players. Please use your discretion.GrahamEnds7 wrote:Are there any restrictions as to who can play the JV set or the Varsity set, or is it by choice?
The JV teams will be playing an NAQT IS A-level packet, and the Varsity teams will be playing a regular NAQT IS-level packet, if that helps in the decision process.

As for logistical information, we will begin registration at 8:00 and start play at 9:00. We will have a one hour lunch break, most likely from 12:00 to 1:00, in which we will serve food in our cafeteria.EBAcademicTeam wrote:Also, is there any sort of logistical information that Charter could provide to teams at this point? IS #129A is not currently scheduled to be used elsewhere near New Jersey, but of course that might change in the future.Jcarlson wrote:I do not know the NAQT official rules on this matter, but we can surely provide you with a letter stating that you have not heard 129A. We do not generally require documentation of the sort described here, but in this kind of case it can be useful to keep some distance between the varsity and JV brackets (for instance, two nearby buildings, different floors of the same building, make sure that players from one division know to avoid watching the finals of the other division, etc.) The final decision is left up to the host school of the subsequent tournament using the overlapping set.

Unfortunately, we only have one floor of one building available for use, but we will make sure to keep the rooms as far away from each other as possible and check with all spectators in a room that no people watching another division's finals will be playing another tournament with the same packet.
Hopefully, this will be sufficient; if not, is there anything else we can do about this?

That sounds fine. In general, making sure the players on the teams involved know about the situation in advance will prevent most problems.

How many of the teams currently registered are JV? I'm thinking of possibly bringing some of my freshmen and sophomore players, but not if the field for them is so small that they'll just be playing each other multiple times.

We will soon change the field listings to reflect the exact number of varsity and JV teams from each school.Northern Central Railway wrote:How many of the teams currently registered are JV? As of now, however, our field is basically evenly split between varsity and JV. We currently have around 15 JV teams - enough to avoid unnecessary repeat matches or matches against other teams from your own school. (We would try to avoid that in any case.)
Hope this helps!

Re: CSWIFT - November 2, 2013 - IS-130
I can give you an update:
JV is finished.
1. Richard Montgomery C
2. Richard Montgomery D
3. Independence A
4. Longfellow A
In varsity, Walter Johnson is 9-0 and Richard Montgomery A is 8-1. If they both win in round 10, they play a final.
The statistician got a little behind, so a final version of this won't happen until tomorrow. BUT -- has anyone ever seen a situation like this? Specifically, does anyone know why it would list Walter Johnson as 6-0, but if you click onto the team you can see that they in fact played 7 matches? It has done this to a couple of teams, and we can't figure out why some matches aren't being included in the standings.
Thanks for any help you can give.

I turned it on, but I'm not sure it provides useful information because the varsity and JV brackets had different question sets.Grams's Go-Go Boots wrote:Round report?
I updated JV -- post any discrepancies here and I'll look into them. Unfortunately when I got "all" the computer scoresheets, I only grabbed the JV files. When I get the team to send me the missing varsity scores, I'll finish that.

Oh no, I meant (and poorly phrased it) that you might have excluded the necessary round numbers, or else there is a preexisting issue with round numbers.

Re: CSWIFT - November 2, 2013 - IS-130
Actually, Jeff figured it out for me. Deep Green had its "exhibition team" box checked.
I now have almost all matches. What is missing is the information from room 305A in the crossover phase. (Perhaps the scorekeeper forgot to hit save?) Does anyone have information on these matches? If no one has the individual details, I can put in forfeit wins if someone tells me who won.
Round 8: Henderson A v. Phoenixville A
Round 9: Thomas Jefferson B v. Phoenixville A
Round 10: Henderson A v. Moorestown Friends
Congrats to everyone in the top 6 of varsity -- you are HSNCT qualified. (How many PACE bids get awarded?)

Out of curiosity, one of the varsity brackets had a bye but the stats show each bye as a forfeited win. Will this be factored out when determing NSC qualifiers?

Overall, I'd like to thank Charter for running an awesome tournament. Everything went smoothly, bracketing was done quickly, the mods knew exactly what they were doing, and everyone was accommodating and efficient.

We have a gray, men's medium North Face jacket which was left at the tournament. Whose is this?
To claim, answer this question: Where did you have lunch on October 26th? (There's a receipt in the pocket.)
Thanks!
