Bulldogs over Broadway at Yale--Oct. 29, 2005

Post by MikeWormdog »

Hey everybody,

This is to let you know that Yale is hosting its annual college
tournament, Bulldogs Over Broadway (BOB), on Saturday, October 29,
2005 in scenic New Haven, CT. Due to schedule conflicts, it's going
to be a little earlier than our traditional first weekend of December
date.

Fees:
Base fee $100
Working Buzzer discount -$10 (limit 2 discounts)
Minimum fee (with packet discounts listed below) $60

BOB is a packet-submission tournament, and here are the requirements.

Send me a packet of: 25 tossups/25 bonuses (aim for around ACF
regionals difficulty or maybe a little easier)

Also, I'm going to try to get last year's BOB questions posted on the
Stanford archive within the next week or so.

Packet specifics:

4/4 History
4/4 Literature
4/4 Science
2/2 of any of the above three (no more than 1/1 of each discipline)
3/3 Fine Arts (music, painting, architecture, etc.)
3/3 Religion/Myth/Philosophy
2/2 Social Science
1/1 Geography/Current Events
2/2 Miscellaneous (General Knowledge, Multi-disciplinary, Trash, or
more from previous categories)

Packet discounts/deadlines:
Fri. September 30 -$25
Fri. October 7 -$15
Sat. Oct. 15 No penalty
Fri. Oct. 21 +$20
After that $+40

**Best packet discount (as determined by me) -$15

Email me about arrangements for novice teams, multiple teams from the
same school, packet questions, etc.

Thanks,

hey,

thought I'd give an update to move this thread higher up the list. I sent the packets from last year's tournament to the folks at Stanford, so they should be up on the archive soon.

As for this year, so far I've heard from (these are mainly probables, nothing confirmed--so don't freak out if you should/shouldn't be on the list):

Brandeis 1
Brown 1
Columbia 1?
Rochester 4!
Rutgers 1
Rutgers-Newark 1?
New School 1
probably a Yale house team

this'll be rounded out with other usual suspects most likely...Harvard, etc.

anyway, let me know if you want to come up to Yale on the 29th--the more the merrier.

Later,

ok, I'll get info out to the teams as soon as it's available...I'm not sure where on campus the tournament will be held yet, but here's a team list as of now:

Columbia 2 (maybe 3)
New School 1
Penn 1
Rutgers 1
Rutgers-Newark 1
Rochester 4
Yale House 1
Brandeis 1 maybe
Brown 1 maybe

Most of the packets have gotten to me by now...thanks for sending them. It's looking to be a good tournament.

Ok, the tournament will take place in the centrally located Willliam L Harkness Hall (WLH), which is on the corner of Wall and College streets.

We will convene in WLH 208 at 9 and hopefully start rounds by 9:30.

Parking is located a block away in a lot on Temple Street.

For a map, go here: http://www.yale.edu/campusmap/central_old.html

You can find more general directions here: http://www.yale.edu/campusmap/

See everyone on Saturday.

Brief results:

Rutgers-Newark and New School (Nathan and Andy) both went 9-1 during the round-robin. Rutgers-Newark then beat New School to win the championship.

The top scorer was Jason from Rutgers.

Full results will be posted in a finite amount of time.

What about results from last year? I'd much rather have results in a finite and bounded amount of time.

ok, don't discuss the question specifics because these are going to be used in mirrors at Tulsa (this saturday) and Georgia sometime in January. if you'd like to post your general feelings on the questions (which i think turned out pretty decent) go ahead.

Hope everyone enjoyed the tournament....the stats should be out soon because they were kept on computer this year.

btw....kudos to Mike on the editing...(and to the packet writers)...this was a well-run tournament and extremely well-edited....the vast majority of the tossups were pyramidal and the bonuses were edited to a consistent degree of difficulty.
