The University of Florida Quiz Bowl team is hosting its annual winter competition

Format
We will be using NAQT Packet IS-132
We have a cap of 19 teams.
Each team can have up to 6 players, only 4 of whom will be playing during each round-half (the other two are alternates who may be substituted in at half-time)
There is no tournament divisions, all teams will compete in the same field against each other using the same packets.

As this is an official event, the rounds will either consist of two halves of nine minutes where the amount of tossups read will depend on the speed of the reader/amount of bonuses received/and speed of answering, or simply two halves of ten tossup questions which will take longer but allow all teams to hear the same number of questions. We will follow whichever one a majority of coaches registering selects.

$50 for First Team
$40 for each additional team

Discounts (Per School, Not Team)
-$5 for every 100 miles distance from high school 1-way to Matherly Hall
-$5 qualified moderator who is needed
-$5 for a buzzer system that is used

Prizes
Trophy for the top team overall
Trophy for the top three individuals
Books for the individuals who were ranked 4-10
Books for the members of the runner-up team

A school with a team in the top 15% of the field at this tournament, will have an invitation to the High School National Championship Tournament (May 31, 2014 in the Hyatt Regency O'Hare in Rosemont, IL)

Registration
To register send me an e-mail at [email protected], with a subject line of "Winter Invitational" or "NAQT High School" or related terms, stating your school's name, and the number of teams you wish to register, and contact phone number in case a problem arises the day of the event. I will send you a confirmation e-mail on reception of your registration. During the check-in, Cash or Checks made payable to "The University of Florida" are the acceptable forms of payment. Registration closes Midnight, Tuesday Night, December 3rd. Until registration closes we can only allow each school to register a maximum of three teams. After registration closes we will allow schools who asked to bring more, in the order that they registered, to add to the field until we reach the cap of 18 teams. Teams will be e-mailed to finalize the number they are bringing on Wednesday, December 4th.

We're interested, I'll have to gather more info from my players (and check my personal schedule). How late in the day are you envisioning competition lasting? Part of the problem we had with past UF tournaments was the overnight nature of the competition. If we can get back on Sunday night and not miss school, that would be very doable for my players.

It's up to the coaches whether we use two halves of nine minutes, or two halves of ten tossups. It also matters how big the field is and thus how many rounds a round-robin would be, or whether we would have to do brackets. We have 14 packets, but the last packets we will reserve in case of a tie. You add in an hour for lunch and if we start at ten, do ten packets at least, factor in the 10 minutes that it takes because of starting time discrepancies between rounds and teams getting to the right rooms or because players use the bathroom. It shouldn't take that long. If each round and the time following takes for some reason 40 minutes, even with lunch, ten packets would take us to 5:30 P.M. We tried doing timed 9 minute halves last year, but the differences between how many questions each room was getting because of the speed of readers made it problematic.
