Penn Bowl at Ohio State (10/26/2013)
Hello everyone, sorry for getting this out so late.
OSU is proud to announce that we will be hosting a mirror of the 2013 Penn Bowl at our beautiful Columbus Campus on October 26th, 2013. Most of this post has been cribbed from Eric's thread.
This tournament will be written entirely by a team of Patrick Liao, Saajid Moyen, and Eric Mukherjee. Eric Mukherjee will be head-editing. There will be 14 packets (not 15) of power-marked questions not longer than 8 lines (including bolding for power). The target difficulty is equivalent to Penn-ance last year.
The distribution we are using is as follows:
4/4 Literature (1/1 World and Other)
4/4 History
4/4 Science (1/1 Biology, 1/1 Chemistry, 1/1 Physics, 1/1 Math and Other)
3/3 Arts
3/3 RMP
1/1 SS
1/1 Geography, CE, and Other (science history goes here)
Each packet will also have a tiebreaker tossup and an extra bonus, each from literature, history, or science.
Base fee: $120 per team
Working buzzer discount: $10 each
Approved moderator discount: $15 each
Travel discount: $15 (more than 200 miles one way according to Google maps)
METHOD OF PAYMENT (borrowed from Cody Voight)
All teams must pay by the day of the tournament. We prefer to accept payment in person right before the tournament starts, but we will accept checks by mail ahead of time if your procedures require it. Teams who do not pay by the day of the tournament will be charged a $25 penalty and will have two weeks to pay their total amount before we start mailing letters to your school administration about it.
We can accept cash, personal checks, or checks from school, school district, or quizbowl club funds. We have no ability to process purchase orders, credit cards, Paypal, or any other forms of payment. Bringing forms of payment outside of the three listed will be considered nonpayment and subject you to the $25 late payment penalty.
All checks must be made out to "The Academic Team at The Ohio State University" Variations on this long-winded official title such as "The OSU Academic Team" have given us no problems in the past, but please try to use our full title to avoid any snafus. If you require a pre-tournament invoice in order to have a check cut, let us know early enough for your school to process the payment. We can generally send you an invoice the same day.
To register for this tournament, please e-mail me at giantkiller54 [at] gmail [dotcom]. You will only be officially registered when you e-mail me.
Thanks for your time, I hope to see as many teams as possible on the 26th.

Is there a field for this tournament yet? I think Connor Emailed you that we're planning on bringing at least two, and probably three teams.

Um, could we get a field update for this? (I assume that one of the appropriate officers from Chicago team has e-mailed you to let you know we're bringing three teams. If not: we're bringing three teams.)

We are dropping to two teams because of some people who aren't going last minute.

Can someone from Penn State please get back to me on whether or not you're still planning on coming/with how many teams?

Re: Penn Bowl at Ohio State (10/26/2013)
I included this in the e-mail I just sent out to teams, but I figured I'd post it here as well:
This Saturday, OSU is playing a home football game at 8PM, so campus will be different than it usually is for our tournaments. This mostly applies to parking. Usually, I tell teams to park in the Tuttle Park Garage, since it is essentially right next to where the tournament takes place. However, on gamedays, this garage is permit-only, so other parking garages will have to be used. I have attached the OSU gameday parking map to this e-mail. The ones in red are the garages or lots that are open to you. The Lane Ave. Garage seems to be the closest one to the tournament site, but the Arps Garage and the Ohio Union garages are also good options. The Union garages are right on high street and are pretty big.
I don't anticipate parking to be too big of a problem ~12 hours before kickoff, but OSU football is a pretty big deal over here, so keep that in mind. The game will also affect traffic patterns, but once again, I don't think this will be as big a problem at 8 AM as it will at 5 PM.

Michigan A and Chicago A played a one-game final to determine the winner, I think. I don't know who won. MSU A and Michigan B rounded out the top bracket.
Thanks to OSU for running a smooth tournament, despite some unpredictable issues (e.g. the Penn State marching band practicing outside our windows).

Congrats to Chicago on an impressive victory, and thanks to everyone who came out yesterday.
I'll have stats up later tonight. I'm away from my laptop right now.

In the first Michigan A vs. Michigan B game, we went 5/11/1, not 5/17/1 as listed in the stats - they have Neal getting 6 tossups, when he didn't get any, so we should have 350 bonus points from 16 bonuses heard, I think.
