Post by MLaudermith »

On Saturday, October 19th, 2013, Fenton High School in Bensenville, IL will again be one of the hosts for the IHSSBCA Novice Tournament, mirroring the SCOP 4 novice set. A registration form for the tournament can be found here:
http://www.ihssbca.org/pdf/noviceentry13.pdf

This tournament is open to all IHSSBCA member teams with the following restrictions on individual players:
A player must have played fewer than 40 varsity-level matches for his or her school’s top team.
A player must have played fewer than 80 career matches at any level.
A player must NOT have scored more than 35 points per game at a varsity invitational tournament.
A player must never have scored more than 29 points per game at a national championship tournament.

If you are interested in competing at the Fenton site, please send the registration form to me as soon as possible. Please let me know if you have any questions about the tournament or player eligibility. You can email me at [email protected].

As always, a great tournament needs great staff, so if you are interested in moderating please contact me. I can offer all staffers lunch plus a modest remuneration.

Thanks, and I look forward to seeing your team in October.

Is this 5-on-5 or 4-on-4? I can't find any info about that.

The tournament is 5-on-5. At some point I think the full rules will be posted on the IHSSBCA website.

The tournament is this week, so I'll bump it up with a question: Should teams bring their own lunches or will enough time be provided to drive somewhere? Or are there places within walking distance?

Teams will have at least 45 minutes for lunch and there are ample fast-food options within a mile of Fenton. You are welcome to bring your lunch as well.

What time is the tournament expected to end and how many games can each team expect to play?

Each team is guaranteed 8 games. We should finish Round 8 around 3:00 pm. The championship and 3rd place games will take another half hour or so.

Congratulations to Barrington A for winning the the 2nd Annual IHSSBCA Novice Tournament held at Fenton High School!

Hinsdale Central B finished in 2nd place, followed by Barrington B in 3rd, and IMSA A in 4th.

Congrats as well to Cormac from York A, scoring a very impressive 119 PPG in the preliminary rounds to top the All-Tournament team.

Full tournament stats will be forthcoming soon.

Many thanks to the players and coaches who made this event not only the largest quizbowl tournament ever held at Fenton, but also one of the most competitive. I was extremely proud of the depth of knowledge shown by these novice players.

Many thanks as well to all the great staffers who made the event a big success!

Statistics: prelims playoffs combined

Bonuses are not yet incorporated; that will be rectified in the next couple of weeks.

Not to incredibly gripe on scores, but the Fenwick C v. Latin B results from the prelims are switched, and I'm pretty sure Fenwick C didn't play IMSA B to a -1 to -1 tie. Thanks for the stats at such a hectic tournament, though!
