ACF Fall 2013 Southeast, Georgia Tech (Sunday 11/03/13!)
ACF Fall 2013 Southeast, Georgia Tech (Sunday 11/03/13!)
Hello,
I'm pleased to announce that the Georgia Institute of Technology will be hosting the mirror of ACF Fall in the southeast. Barring any complications with a Sunday date, this tournament will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2013 to avoid conflicts with parking/noise/staff from GT home football. This is the day after most mirrors are being conducted. For that reason, please limit discussion of the questions until after our mirror is complete!
To register for the tournament, send me an email at asilverman6 AT gatech DOT edu. Please include "ACF Fall" in your subject header, and mention which discounts (particularly buzzer and staff, see below) that your team will qualify for.
See viewtopic.php?f=8&t=14595 for extended details about the tournament. A couple things I'd like to highlight:
-This is a packet submission tournament. The above link has information regarding which teams will be required to write packets. Essentially, any teams with a player who played a regular collegiate tournament before September 1, 2012 will be required to write a packet. That includes high school teams.
-The fees and discounts are listed on the linked page; we will be using them. In addition, you may receive either a discount for submitting a packet early or a penalty for submitting one late--bear this in mind!
- Look at the ACF website for info about packet submissions, particularly formatting and distribution, at http://acf-quizbowl.com/archives/archiv ... uidelines/. Remember that this tournament is especially intended for new collegiate teams, so be careful with answerline choices and the like.
-High school teams are welcome to compete in the tournament. Some discounts will not apply to HS teams, however; look at the original announcement for reference.
We intend to start the tournament at 8:30 AM on Sunday, with the goal of finishing reasonably early and give teams time to get back home, so keep that in mind when planning your drive! The tournament will be held in Georgia Tech's Instructional Center (759 Ferst Drive NW, Atlanta, GA 30318). Info about parking will be forthcoming.
Shoot me an email if you're interested or have any questions regarding the tournament; packets or questions about submissions should go to the editors at the gmail account "acf.fall.2013". Thanks!

Interest, but awaiting budget info for the year. Bevill State CC, Jasper, AL - 1, maybe 2 teams. Neither should have to submit a packet, I believe.

Are the two "Dorman A" teams in the list of registered teams just a typo, or is one of them supposed to be Dorman B?

There's just one Dorman team coming. Speaking of, I've updated the field/interested in the first post. I'm going to cap the field at 24 due to lack of rooms, so if you're going to play, now would be nice to know!AlexLiu wrote:Are the two "Dorman A" teams in the list of registered teams just a typo, or is one of them supposed to be Dorman B?

Can we get a field update? I know at least one of those teams have dropped.

Teams that drop should remember to contact ACF (by emailing me at [email protected] or Jerry at [email protected]) and let us know that we no longer need to bill you.

Re: ACF Fall 2013 Southeast, Georgia Tech (Sunday 11/03/13!)
Congrats to Dorman for winning this event. The next three teams in the top bracket were Vanderbilt, who won the UG trophy, GT House A, and Chattahoochee.
Stats: http://www.hsquizbowl.org/db/tournament ... t_2013_gt/
Special shout-out to Dorman for having a 30 PPB round, which is dang impressive. Let me know if anything's wrong with the stats, as it's the first time I've used SQBS and I'm virtually guaranteed to screw up anything that involves computers.
Also, apologies for the lunch fiasco; I thought that the Student Center was open on Sundays but it wasn't. It seems like people managed to find food to eat. We ran about half an hour behind, which isn't terrific but I suppose it could have been a lot worse. Other than that, I was pretty satisfied with the way that the tournament ran, and much appreciation for the staffers who came out today to help: Jake, Harrison, Eric, Brighton, Dallas, Aaron, Zach, Jessica, Perry, Taylor (I probably got many of these names wrong, sorry!). We couldn't have done it without you.

Re: ACF Fall 2013 Southeast, Georgia Tech (Sunday 11/03/13!)
Dorman is listed as having 11.67 PPB against Hooch. Too many tossups, it looks like.
Also, although this is a pretty minor problem, I'm missing a reg in Tech A's game against Vandy. I guess it was attributed to someone else.

Similarly, although USC's Myndert Papenhuysen (best name in quizbowl?) is wont to neg, 21 negs against Auburn A seems a bit harsh.
