Announcement: MATE II - Arrested Development

Post by 4nay »

Salutations one and all,

As some of you may already know (either from following the first iteration of MATE or the Facebook group), Mason Hale (of LCHS) and I will be writing an Arrested Development set to celebrate the premiere of the new season. The packet is currently set to have 30 tossups and 30 single-part bonuses at the very minimum. If time is on our side, we may expand to 50 but overall we're looking for quality over quantity.

We have a Skype tournament slated for June 1st at approx. 8:30 PM EST and we will possibly run this at PACE NSC as a side event if anyone is willing to help us make that happen. I'll be updating this thread with details about NSC as time goes on. Due to the postponement of the set's "premiere" from the weekend of HSNCT to early June, we will also be including material from the new season as well (true AD fans will have watched the whole season by then, amirite?).

The packet will be released in a similar fashion as MATE I; if NSC happens, we'll release the packet June 10th and if it doesn't, we'll release the packet on June 2nd.

I'm looking forward to playing this set with you guys and I hope you all enjoy the new season of AD coming this Sunday. Cheers!

I'd be very interested in the Skype tournament but I've never done one of these before. How exactly do I sign up/get involved?

I probably should've added this in the first post: for the Skype tournament, just add "mason.hale" to your contacts and message Mason that you're interested in the tourney. We'll start a conference call on June 1st and go from there. If any of you guys have played Skypebowl before, it'll basically be structured the same way.

We think a singles tournament would work best for this packet.

I'm unavailable on the Skype date, and as such would LOVE to play it at PACE.

If enough people are not able to make the Skype date and can find a reasonable alternative, I'd be happy to read for a second, separate Skype tournament.

That would be nice. Most other weekends this summer are fine for me, though notably not June 22.

MATE II will be postponed to this Sunday due to Mason catching a pretty bad sickness recently. Apologies for the last minute postponement, everyone! We'll be playing over Skype on Sunday at 8:30 EST.

Is this going to happen at NSC? I'm in a cabin with shaky internet access, and while I can try to make tonight's Skype event, I'd be forever indebted (and willing to pay a few bucks) towards anyone who makes it happen at NSC.

I might be going to NSC as a spectator. If I do, I'd be happy to run the packet there.

We'll be delaying this until 9:00 EST/8:00 CST due to some technical difficulties we have to sort out. Sorry about that guys.

Just to clarify: I'm pretty sure all of the above were eventually successfully added. Not sure what the issue was.

Thanks everyone for playing! We ended up splitting the players into two rooms (played one after another). Our first champion was Jack Mehr, who defeated Nate Weiser by a razor-thin margin of 5 points. Our second champion was Mike Cheyne, who powered the last question and nailed the bonus to win by 10 over Jonah Greenthal. Both matches were quite exciting! I hope you all had fun. Oh, and both winners will be getting book prizes, courtesy of Anay.

I'll continue looking into a minor side-event at PACE NSC if people are interested.

I'm going to be heading up to NSC tomorrow to watch matches and such, so I can run a brief side-event if people are interested. The first eight (or ten if we can acquire one of those ten-buzzer systems) people to express interest can play. Hope to see you there!

When would this be held? (And I am expressing interest along with my teammates Sam Deutsch and Josh Weaver.)

I'm thinking Saturday night or possibly during lunch. What do you think? I haven't attended a national tournament before so I'm not entirely sure what time would work best for the competitors.

Okay, I'll plan on hosting the event during lunch, then.

Current field:

Jonathan Marx
Will H-M
Sam Deutsch
Josh Weaver

I'll do my best to find the RM team during lunch, so other potential players should meet there as well. We'll collectively find a room and play the packet. It shouldn't take more than thirty minutes in total. See you tomorrow!

I read the packet today for the RM team during lunch, and it was a good time (Jonathan Marx won by a good margin). If you'd still like to play the packet sometime tonight or tomorrow, email me at [email protected]. I'll send you the packet to play with whomever you choose.
