I'll mod for this assuming it doesn't conflict with geography monstrosity. I should be able to have an extra buzzer set for it too, perhaps more if asked nicely in advance.

For personal reasons related to my own stupidity, I'll have to drop out. Saajid, Auroni, and Isaac may be looking for a new fourth, so you can contact them if you're looking for a team.

Auroni has been play-testing everything I've written for the past month, so unless he recently had a Freaky Friday moment with Andy Watkins, I don't think he's intending on playing.

I have no idea what's up with that. I'm not going to be at HSNCT. I've never even seen the spreadsheet. Someone must have signed me up to play for some reason.

Well, I don't know what's going on, but assuming Saajid and Isaac are, in fact, playing - and I'm pretty sure at least Isaac is - I guess they'll need two more players. On an unrelated note, whoever you are, don't sign players up for tournaments if they're not playing those tournaments!

This has not happened yet, despite rumblings of significant interest at NSC.

I guess since I'll be at NSC but not HSNCT, I'll add my voice to whatever clamor there may be for having this set run at NSC, if possible.

If I play this at HSNCT I can probably staff it at NSC if it gets run there as well.

If people could put a contact email address on the spreadsheet, that'd be great, so we can start sending out stuff about when/where/format, etc.

Looking at the spreadsheet revision history, it looks like someone was an obnoxious joker circa April 15, listing Chip, Andy, and Joe Brosch as staffers (as well as, bizarrely, one of my players... we're not going to be at HSNCT, so, uh...) and that is when Auroni appeared on a team.

So, just having been notified that I was listed as a free agent for this, I removed my name from the spreadsheet as I am not going to be at HSNCT. I don't believe I told anyone I was definitely going to be there.

The email I sent out a bit ago:
Hey, all,

So, some details for Schindler's Lit:

We'll be meeting at 7:30 in the lower level conference rooms. We're going to be short laptops for readers, so if people have them along please bring them (and you will get a $5 discount! first come, first serve, please respond to the email to get). My cell is [PM me if you need it] -- let me know if you can't show up or something.

Right now there are 18 teams and 7 packets. I can't think of a good format for this, so breaking into 2 divisions seems optimal. Please respond indicating whether you would like to be in the top or bottom division, or don't care. Also if anyone has any good format ideas, I'd love to hear them.

Given that there seem to be more than enough moderators (I think I counted fifteen), perhaps two more teams should be formed. That opens up the scheduling options, especially if you can scrape up another packet?

20 teams = 4 divisions of 5 = 5 packets
Then rebracket into 4 quads = 3 packets

I suggested something similar, where we do 5 of 4 and rebracket into 5 of 4.

I didn't receive Max's email, but I assume the schedule for the Expert Division is "n games, all of which are forfeits." Let us know if Selene and I should plan on anything in particular--exhibition matches, enormous trophies, etc.

My thought is that exactly 8 teams should relegate themselves to an upper division and play a full round robin, with the winner being the team with the highest record (breaking tie by ppg or with extra tossups if there's a tie). This should make the scheduling for at least one division rather straightforward. I'd be willing to play in that upper division.

OK, teams condensed so we now have 8 teams in the top, so we'll run with this. For the bottom, we have ten teams -- I'm thinking maybe 2 brackets of 5 followed by a crossover game, and then free-form playing on the last packet for those who want, but I'm up for anything (maybe two crossovers for the top 2 in each bracket?)

Get two more lower division teams signed up and I will a. love you forever and b. definitely allow you to play. Get one and only b will occur. I'm sure we'll also have a few drops and a few add-ons, so we may have to make some ad hoc lower bracket teams the day of, but I'd prefer stuff settled in advance. I'll cut off signups at 12 teams in lower division though.

Also, I sent out a staff email!
Hey, all,

I have you down as staffing Schindler's Lit, thanks! Since we'll have internet access throughout the event, we'll be using Gordon Arsenoff's WUStL stats program. It'd be lovely if you could all make accounts at http://young-frankenstein.wustl.edu/index.php and tell me your username so I can add you to the tournament. In the meantime, please play around with the public test tournament after you've made your account so you can familiarize yourself with the system (it's super intuitive, and I can explain it to anyone on the day of the tournament anyway).

Please be in the lower level conference rooms at 7:30 PM on Saturday night for the tournament. My cell is [cell #] if you need anything/have any questions the day of.

Thanks,

-Max

Matt Jackson's team went 7-0 to win after a timely acquisition of Matt Bollinger. The rest of the stats made their way to Sid Verma, who may or may not SQBS them.

Also, someone may have lost a watch in Haohang's room -- if that is you, Stephen Eltinge now possesses it.

Also also, thanks a ton to everyone who staffed, and extra thanks to Haohang for staffing and chipping in a few questions! If in the hecticness of it all you paid me too much or too little, alert me and I will rectify it next time I see you.

Cody Voight and I will be running a mirror of this event at NSC. It will either happen in the UMD classrooms after the tournament on Saturday night, or in the main staff hotel also on Saturday night. (I'll try to get a definitive answer on this ASAP). It is doubles for now, but teams may be combined if a ton of people sign up. I'll be playing and doing the pre-tournament logistics. Cody will be staffing, directing, and doing stats.
