Hello everyone! Livingston HS in Livingston, NJ will be hosting its annual March Madness Quiz Bowl tournament on Saturday, March 16, 2013. (I was on leave last year and it wasn't held)

We are going to be using NAQT set IS-122
We can host up to 48 teams.
We'll have 5-6 round robin preliminary rounds (depending on number of teams) followed by lunch and then playoffs to follow. Everyone should get 8-10 rounds.
Check in between 8 - 8:30 with a great, high quality bagel and orange juice breakfast. We will be selling pizzas in the morning (order that morning upon arriving to check in) as well as selling slices and other food throughout the day.

Fees are...
$80 for the first team
$70 for each additional team
Discounts of $15 for each moderator and $10 for each buzzer set
Max discount of $45.

Registration will constitute an email from the TEAM COACH/ADVISOR confirming attendance and registration. Please make all checks out to "Livingston High School" and either bring with you to the tournament or mail to the below address at my attention. Attached you will find an introductory letter and a registration form which you may use as an official invitation/inofrmation sheet for you and/or your school. Guy---Just an FYI---St. Joe's has registered TWO teams, not one, for your "March Madness", plus ONE moderator as well.

Guy,

SHP will certainly be there. Two teams for now, up to 5 buzzers (let me know what you need), and one moderator. If I can provide additional mods, I will. E-mail to follow.

Hi everyone,

As you can all see from the updated list of teams (above) there are so far around 25 teams registered for the tournament. We have the capacity to host up to 48 teams so I encourage new teams to register! While our tournament is still 5 weeks away, there is a lot going on with other local tournaments in March (Bloomfield and Columbia - both which we will be attending) and winter holidays for some so I hope to hear from more teams soon as the date creeps upon us. I will continue to update the field as registrations/interest emails come in.

A note: with already registered teams, volunteers and former players I have 20 experienced moderators already willing and able to help out. Thus, at this point, we will not be needing or accepting any new moderators unless the number of teams grows substantially - which, of course, we hope it will. Buzzers, however, are always welcome.

Thanks.

Hi everyone,

Well, we're a little more than 2 weeks out from the tournament at this point and, as you can see from the updated field list of schools/teams above, we are currently at 41 teams. While our goal is to cap at 48 teams, we also want to have a good number for groupings so for the moment we are going to soft cap the number of teams at 42 and put any other teams on the wait list, hoping that more schools in the next 2 weeks register so we can have a 48 firm hard cap. Thus, the next team to register will be the final definite soft cap team and any other teams will be placed on the waitlist and be put in the tournament if we can reach 48 teams and/or there are any drops.

Teams that have registered: please check your numbers on the field list above for teams, buzzers and moderators and let me know if there are any changes ASAP.

Our plan, at this point, is to divide into groups of 6 and have 5 preliminary rounds in the morning followed by a regrouping for the playoffs and consolation rounds (likely 5 as well) after lunch. Details to be worked out based on the number of teams and other factors.

We will be selling pizzas at $12 a pie from a local pizzeria that you can order and pay upon registration when you arrive. Try to figure out how many you want/need before arriving. We'll have them delivered at lunchtime and will be selling individual slices as well (limited) in addition to other food and drinks all day.

Please email at [email protected] if you have any further questions or wish to register. Thanks.

Edit: Hunter has taken the 42nd spot. Thus, any other team will be put on the waitlist and be entered if we can reach a total of 48 teams and/or we have any drops. Hopefully we will be able to reach 48!

Edit #2 - As of March 1st, we currently have 47 teams registered which means there is ONE SPOT LEFT in order to officially close tournament at 48 teams.

Ridgewood would like to be put on the wait list. Do you still need buzzers?

Ranney would like to also be put on the wait list, likely 1 team with no buzzers or moderators. Thanks!

With Ranney's registration and Ridgewood adding a second team the field for the tournament is now closed. Any new prospective entrants or additional teams to current schools may be placed on the wait list pending any drops.

Posting on this forum does not necessarily constitute official communication with the tournament director and team so please use email if you have any questions and to formally register/inquire. Thanks a lot.

We are almost ready for Saturday's competition. We had a last minute drop from a team and are now 1 team short of our target number (and current number) of 48 teams in our current groupings so if anyone wants to bring one team on Saturday (or add one team to their current number) please let me know ASAP at the above email. Otherwise, we hope that the current teams can work out a TEAM USA or something to fill the missing spot on Saturday.

We will be having 5 preliminary games in the AM, regroupings for 3 playoff rounds for everyone in the PM (in 3 different divisions - top 16, second 16, last 16) after lunch and then semifinals and finals for each division. Top 8 in top division will qualify for both NAQT Nationals and PACE Nationals (yes, this tournament is now PACE affiliated as well).

We hope to have preliminary stats up at lunch time on this site.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday!

Congratulations to Ridgewood A for taking the Division 1 championship ins what was a very strong field and tough, competitive playoff for everyone. Ridgewood emerged form the Midwest bracket (see attachment above) to reach the final rounds and defeat Ranney (who emerged from the circle of death in a competitive West group) in the semifinals, 315-230. In the other semifinal, High Tech B (which had ousted High Tech A in its playoff group) defeated Hunter A in a very tight, competitive game 355-340. In the final, Ridgewood A defeated High Tech B 345-285.

In Division II, North Babylon emerged to defeat Ridgewood B 310-170 and Leonia A defeated Hunter B 155-140 in the Divison III finals.

Congratulations to all teams on a well played tournament! Full stats I hope to get up this week.

Thanks to Guy and everyone at Livingston for a smooth tournament and a fun day. Managing a 48-team field is no small feat and the day went off without a hitch. Great to see so many friends old and new.
