Re: Terrapin Mirror @ MSU, Date TBA
A team (or more unlikely, teams) from Canada can most likely come-what are the eligibility rules?

OSU would prefer the later date, as the 16th falls within our spring break.

The same as the main site, whatever those are. I know that open teams are not allowed, but nothing beyond that.Cheynem wrote:What are the eligibility restrictions?
Also, seeing as the main site appears to have been postponed a week, I think we'll be doing the 23rd.

Re: Terrapin Mirror @ MSU, Date TBA
Arun has informed me that they intend to stand by the typical closed tournament eligibility rules, including no mixed high school teams.
Everybody who has talked to me has supported the 23rd date, so I'm leaning pretty strongly toward that (as well as for the reasons Joe mentioned). If anyone has any strong objections, you'd be best advised to voice them now.

Re: Terrapin Mirror @ MSU, March 23, 2013
I've updated the field. As I wrote above, the field currently consists of St. Joseph High School as well as an undefined number of Michigan teams (at least one). We're waiting for information from Brian McPeak of Maryland about the possibility that our site (and maybe others) may allow teams that would normally have to write a packet to play without doing so, under certain conditions (possibly involving additional fees), kinda like some WIT sites. Other than Michigan A, we don't know which Midwest teams have submitted packets.
Ottawa has also expressed some interest, and from Jarret's post earlier in the thread, I suspect OSU might be interested, too, but I'm not sure about that.

I think it's worth mentioning that Michigan's NASAT team would also love to play this if the people at Maryland would allow it.The Eighth Viscount of Waaaah wrote:I've updated the field. I can confirm Ottawa's hope to play; if packet submission is not required, it's possible a McMaster and even a UToronto team could come...

I e-mailed Brian to see if he would consider allowing open teams, or just open high school teams, for our site. Should Maryland refuse, we would still be delighted to see DCC, DCDS, and various Illinois high school teams play.

As far as I can understand, Maryland is still evaluating the possibilities for loosening eligibility requirements. I asked them to make a decision by Friday afternoon. As lovely as it would be to have St. Joseph and Michigan A play each other for twelve straight rounds, I plan to cancel the tournament if no more teams sign up in the next few days.

Teams that were supposed to send a packet but didn't are now allowed to play for a $50 additional fee. We are also allowing open teams, though we strongly prefer that people who are enrolled in college play with other people at the same college.
If you're interested, please sign up as soon as possible. If we're below, say, six teams by next Tuesday at 10:00 pm, we may still have to cancel.

I am sending you an e-mail, but will also post here that a "Team Canada" (Dennis Beeby and Jordan Palmer, uOttawa, Brendan McKendy, Algonquin College, and Jay Misuk, McMaster University) is registering. We have one buzzer set and laptops, if you need them. :-)

We'll have an answer to how many teams we are bringing by Wednesday, but it will most likely be in the 2-3 range.

Hey, I'm sure everyone is enjoying the set, but remember that it won't be clear for some time now. Can we have a private discussion forum for it so people can tell us exactly how much they enjoyed it?
