The quizbowl team at Westview High School is pleased to announce Sagacious Westview Academic Gala, or SWAG. SWAG I is a regular difficulty NAQT tournament directed by Eddie Kim.

DATE/TIME: SWAG I shall take place on Saturday, 19 January 2013. Check-in shall begin at 8:00 A.M., and matches shall begin promptly at 9:00 A.M.

LOCATION: SWAG I shall take place on the campus of Westview High School, located at 13500 Camino del Sur, San Diego, CA 92129. Vehicles may park in either lot and persons may enter the campus through the front gates. Matches shall take place in the classrooms in the J and L buildings. A map of the campus can be found here.

REGISTRATION: Teams must register for SWAG I by emailing [email protected] with the following information: the school's name, the number of teams, the number of buzzers, the number of moderators, the calculated total fee, and a contact phone number. Schools shall be limited to three teams until further notice, and additional teams shall be waitlisted. Registrations shall be confirmed with a reply email. Replying to this thread will not register a team. The registration fee may be paid on-site or mailed as a non-refundable check in advance to the address 13500 Camino del Sur, San Diego, CA 92129. Checks must be made payable to Westview Quizbowl and the envelope must read "ATTN: Limor Weltsch" on it or the payment shall not be received.

The registration fee structure shall be as follows:
$80 for first team
$70 for subsequent teams
-$10 per team if registration fee is postmarked by 12 January 2013
-$5 (off total school cost) for each fully functioning buzzer system
-$15 (off total school cost) for each competent staff member present the entire tournament
-$40 (off total school cost) for schools that have not competed in an NAQT tournament in the past year
-$5 (off total school cost) for every fifty (50) miles travelled, according to Google Maps
+$20 (on total school cost) if registration fee is paid after 19 January 2013
Minimum fee: $0 for first team, $40 for subsequent teams

TOURNAMENT FORMAT: The tournament shall use the NAQT IS-122 set and shall adhere to official NAQT rules, with the exception that matches shall be run as untimed halves of ten questions each. A preliminary round robin in the morning shall be followed by round robin playoffs in the afternoon based on win-loss records. Ties shall be resolved on the basis of points per bonus, and ties therein shall be resolved on the basis of points per game.

The field size shall be limited to thirty (30) teams until further notice, and teams shall have no more than five players, no more than four of whom shall play at any point in time.

As stated in the NAQT HSNCT rules, the top 15% of the field at SWAG I shall qualify for the 2013 HSNCT in Atlanta, Georgia.
As SWAG I is platinum-certified with PACE, the top 25% of the field shall qualify for the 2013 NSC in Central Park, Maryland.

FOOD: A light breakfast shall be provided in the lobby, and eateries exist within a comfortable walking distance of the campus. A map shall be provided on-site.

The field for SWAG I is now full, although we are planning to expand the field to thirty (30) teams. Teams on the waitlist shall be prioritized alphabetically; that is, any A-teams will be taken before any B-teams, and so on.

The field for SWAG has now been expanded to thirty (30) teams. Any A-, B-, or C-teams on the waitlist have been added to the field, though D-, E-, and F-teams shall remain on the waitlist until 5 January, 2013, or two weeks prior to SWAG I.

Recap and thoughts.

Torrey Pines A won the final against North Hollywood A 435-200 to finish 1st. Arcadia A was knocked out in the semifinal against NoHo A and placed 3rd.

For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure Arcadia A didn't score a record-shattering 33.89 ppb against Rancho Bernardo A. According to our own records, we scored 300 bpts and 11 tossups that round, so it should be 27.27. Other than that, there doesn't seem to be much wrong with the stats that I know of other than the missing semifinals and finals.
