IFT at Buffalo 10/6/12
IFT at Buffalo 10/6/12
This is the Buffalo site of the Illinois Fall Tournament, a housewrite done by UIUC. I, Matthew Hill, will be acting as TD. Difficulty will be "easy." (ACF Fall and MUT from the past few years are a good reference for the target difficulty). [Portions of UIUC's announcement have been borrowed throughout.]
Eligibility:
(stolen from Ike's announcement)
You can play this tournament as long as you are affiliated with a school in the ACF sense of the term. If you are unsure of your eligibility status, you should contact us or your TD. Also, there will be no open teams allowed at this tournament, no matter what the reason. Chimera or scab teams are only allowed for the purposes of filling out a field. People who need to play “unaffiliated” for whatever reason should contact us to resolve any issues. Exceptions might be made if there is some scenario I haven't envisioned here, but that's not likely. Play with your own schools people!
Logistics:
Rooms are in the second floor of Clemens Hall on the North Campus, we plan on registration starting at 9:00 AM with play beginning at 9:30 AM. Parking is available in the Furnas Lot or the Baird B lot for easy access.
University Map: http://www.buffalo.edu/buildings/maps/NorthCampus.pdf. Clemens Hall is Building 9.
Fee Structure:
Base fee: $120
Buzzer discount: -$5 per working system (we should all know what constitutes "working")
Staffer discount: -$10 per qualified moderator, -$5 per scorekeeper
Travel discount: -$10 per 200 miles one-way (as determined by Google Maps)
Payment Note:
As of this time, our financial overlords at UB do not allow us to accept Canadian Currency, or checks drawn from Canadian Banks. We can accept US currency, Checks in United States Dollars, or Purchase Orders. There are ATMs available on campus if currency exchange is required.
Contact Information
If you plan on attending this tournament, please e-mail me at mjhill2 AT buffalo.edu. Please in the e-mail include a phone number at which a member of your team can be contacted on the day of the tournament. Posting in this thread is NOT sufficient for signing up. I encourage teams to sign up early as to not get shafted by a potential field cap. Additionally, if you sign up and can't make it, please let me know so that I can re-open the field to other teams.
Field
UB (2-3)
Rutgers (1), 1 buzzer
Case Western (2+)
Ottawa (1)
Expressed Interest:
McMaster U (1-3)
Total: 6-9

Rutgers University would be interested in sending a team to this tournament. My question is on the likelihood of this event occurring at all given the number of teams in the field as it stands right now. Should we plan with the assumption that this tournament is going to run or should we start planning to drive up to Yale instead?

This tournament will run, no matter the attendance by other schools.

Mac will send at least 1, at most 3 teams. I'll try to get accurate figures ASAP.

Guys,
Rutgers is the only team to officially register so far, could you officially sign up as soon as possible? Thanks.

This is the weekend of Canadian Thanksgiving, so many teams' members will be spread far and wide.MathMusic wrote:Guys,

I never thought of that. UB doesn't give us off for Columbus day, so I didn't realize that the second monday of october is the 8th this year.
I understand if teams will have trouble forming until the last minute.

All stats are now final: http://www.hsquizbowl.org/db/tournaments/1094/
Congratulations to Case Western A, which beat McMaster in the finals. Case Western B and a team composed of Dennis from Ottawa and some random Buffalo people rounded out the field.
