call for ACF Nationals packet compilers
I'm putting out a call for people to assist us with packet compilation and proofreading in the run-up to Nationals. Your responsibilities would include taking a few packets, proofreading them for grammar and punctuation, randomizing them, and sending them back to us. It's maybe an hour or two of work total if enough people (4 or 5) get on board with this. If you are able and willing to provide this assistance, please post in this thread or email me (grapesmoker at gmail dot com).

Re: call for ACF Nationals packet compilers
Great, thank you guys. A few more people have come forward to email me, so we should be set. Our target is to start shipping the first packets to you in about a week, so I'll be in touch when that happens.

Out of curiosity, is the typical process of randomization to do it through Excel, or is there a specific program that Quiz Bowlers use?

Re: call for ACF Nationals packet compilers
Personally, I don't actually randomize. I'll start out with the four lit tossups in the round then move them so that it doesn't always go American-Brit-Euro-World/other. Then I'll paste in the history tossups, then the science, then the arts, RMP, and the rest. Then I do the bonuses. That way you can keep things roughly balanced by the half. I usually read through (tossup-bonus style) to make sure that nothing looks weird. I prefer well-balanced packets to purely random ones, but that's just me.

The way I usually do it is to plug the list of answers into www.random.org and hit "randomize" a few times. Then if I don't like what I get I move things around a bit.Bartleby wrote:Out of curiosity, is the typical process of randomization to do it through Excel, or is there a specific program that Quiz Bowlers use?

Mike Bentley also has some sort of QB randomization program. Usually you have to move between 1-3 things, but it's better than nothing.

This will accomplish the same thing as using Excel, except it's less work. Thanks!grapesmoker wrote:The way I usually do it is to plug the list of answers into http://www.random.org and hit "randomize" a few times. Re: call for ACF Nationals packet compilers
I think I would be great at proofreading for syntax, punctuation, grammar, etc. I have never tried randomization. I will be home this weekend. I cannot staff NAQT ICT as I will be at Barber Motorsports Park (Birmingham, AL). The next weekend, I will be at the Long Beach Grand Prix. I can be reached at [email protected]

I can totally do this, and I'm not going to be at Nats, so your scrimmages are safe from my amazing powers of short-term memory.

Hmm, I thought that the e-mail in my profile was my UWO one. I will look into this, but you can reach me at bmcnama -AT- uwo -DOT- ca.
EDIT: This appears to be the e-mail address in my profile. If it's being problematic for you, you can also try brian-mcnamara -AT- hotmail - DOT com.

Re: call for ACF Nationals packet compilers
Yeah, I tried @uwo.ca but that bounced for unspecified reasons. Sometimes I find university domains won't let zip files through, which is what I was trying to send you. In any case, look for an email from me at some point in the near future at either address.Bartleby wrote:Hmm, I thought that the e-mail in my profile was my UWO one.
