Post-ATROPHY Singles Tournament

Post by dtaylor4 »

I, Donald Taylor, will be running a singles tournament after ATROPHY this year. The questions will come from the collaboration between St. Anselm and Torrey Pines.

Like the tournament I ran last year, all profits will be given to Matt's Buzzers. Last year, with 28 players, about $400 was raised, which was used to give two teams $200 grants. I'd like to see similar or greater turnout this year.

The fee is $15/player, period.

-$5 per working buzzer (needs two lights, but please bring spare parts)
-$10 per staffer

Game format: 20 TUs, negs, no powers. If it's tied after 20, first score change ends it.

For now, the field will be capped at 32. The format will be determined by the number of players.

If you have any questions, or want to register, email me at dtaylor1987 at gmail dot com, and put ATROPHY Singles in the subject line.

We may enter as many as four and if so I'll be willing to staff; I'll check with my students next week.

Update:

I have secured the set, so this tournament is on.

Also, I will need staffers. If you're willing to stick around and read, I'd be in your debt.

Is said debt payable by means of one of your feet being placed in a location of the staffer's choice?

I have made a change to the fee structure.

I have cut the price to $15/player, period. If a check has already been processed, I will issue a refund for the difference at the tournament.

If you want to bring cash the day of the tournament, you are free to do so.

If you are bringing buzzers, let me know.

I'm assuming you got the Facebook message, but North can also contribute buzzers if they're needed.

The field is starting to shape up pretty well, but I'd like to see a few more players sign up.

If you want in, the deadline is 2pm on April 22nd. After that, I'll print schedules and begin the trek towards DeKalb.

I could really use more staff. If you want to read, let me know.

Due to room and staff constraints, I'm capping the field at 24.

If you've posted, but haven't emailed me, you better do so soon. I'm looking at you, Latin and Loyola.

Assuming a 24-player cap, the format will be 4x6, 4x6, finals. Prelim ties will be broken by PPG, ties to get into finals will be played off.

I'll probably be getting confirmations from any additional North people about this tomorrow at practice. I'll also ask Coach Basque about staffing if you guys need any more people helping out.

So yeah this happened after ATROPHY. Nolan Beat Greg in the final to claim first. Ben Chametzky got 3rd and Srinivas got 4th. I honestly don't remember the other places offhand but DT will probably post the stats later.

First off, I would like to thank all the staffers who made this tournament run well: Brad Fischer, Kristin Strey (major props also for ordering pizza), Jonah Greenthal, David Riley, Matt Laird, David Reinstein, Sharon Lorinskas, Mike Perovanvoic, Mike Wong, and Tom Egan.

Major props also to the set authors, conversion was high across the board, with a lot of powers.

Due to constraints, twelve players played in a singles tournament, while six doubles teams played in a separate bracket.

After some major upsets, Nolan Winker defeated Greg Dzuricsko in a one-game final to win. Ben Chametzky finished third.

Morgan Venkus and Matt McBride won the doubles event over DJ Germano and Daniel Thirman.

Jonah has the stats, and will post a link when they are up.

In all, over $300 was raised for the Matt's Buzzers fund. Thank you to all the participants for contributing to a great cause.

Sheryl emailed me today to indicate she received the funds collected Saturday.

From the funds raised from this tournament, two second-chance drawings will be held in the near future.
