Sack of Antwerp mirror @ U. Delaware, 3/12/11

Post by mastaloo »

In response to the cancellation of the mid-Atlantic mirror of Sack of Antwerp, the University of Delaware will now be hosting that mirror on 3/12. The matches will take place in Purnell Hall, with more details to follow regarding scheduling.

Prices and discounts will be the same as the main site, so:

$120 per team
-$5 per working buzzer
-$10 for competent staffers
-$10 for traveling over 200 miles

Checks should be written out to Academic Competition Club (U of DE). Payment may be made the morning of the event, or mailed to Academic Competition Club, c/o Student Activities Office, 218 Trabant University Center, Newark, DE 19716.

To register, either post a reply or send me an email at [email protected] giving number of teams, staffers, and buzzers.

Location of Purnell Hall:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source= ... 21136&z=16

Registration will take place in Purnell 115 (a big auditorium near the main entrance - the side facing Amstel Ave.) starting at 8:30, and the opening meeting will begin at 9.

Field
Maryland - 2 teams
Montgomery College
Trevor Davis et al.
W&M?
Matt Weiner et al.
Delaware house team (probably)

If anyone wants to have a draft (minus the teams that are coming as whole teams), then we can do that in the opening meeting.

I'm interested in playing this tournament. Given the difficulty of the set, I am looking for teammates.

Normally this would be at the edge of our non-nationals range but there's a good chance I'll be going to Delaware next year for grad school and I haven't visited UD yet, plus we have plenty of money left this year to spend on a hotel, so W&M is tentatively down for this.

For parking - I strongly suggest parking in the Trabant parking garage. It's one block from the tournament and the whole day's parking should run you about $5. (Map: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source= ... z=16%20%20)

Just realized I'll be only an hour and a half away as this is happening the day after I get home for spring break. I'd be quite happy to join you (if you still need teammates), though I can't promise I'll be much help.

I hate to say this but turns out March 12th is the 2nd to last day of spring break so it'll be hard to muster up anyone. I should keep track of these things now that I'm not a student. I personally might still be able to come up, we'll see.

Edit: Yeah work is keeping me out of this unfortunately  and Spring Break is keeping everyone at W&M out.

Its kind of sad that I have to pick between showing up to either this or IO due to my exam schedule. I guess I'll figure it out.

This tournament's happening in a little more than a week, so anyone else who wants to register should do so soon.

I will be playing this tournament with any interested Richmonders. There will likely be space for others on my team, so you should contact me at [email protected] if you need a team, especially if you know science.

Again, just a final call for anyone who wants to play, it'd be great if there were a few more teams in the field. We'll probably field a house a team just to boost that number.

Given that the field for this (with the exception of Maryland) appears to essentially be a conglomerate of free agents, I think a draft might be a good idea to try to get as even of games as possible. Anyone else have an opinion on this?

We should have enough staff on hand to form a house team (if there's an odd number of teams) or to supply some free agents to teams that are under strength (if there's an even number of teams).

Preliminary results: in a thrilling quadruple round robin, Weiner and friends won with an 11-1 record; full stats should be posted soon. Thanks to everyone who played today!
