Loyola Ultima, Wilmette IL (1/22/11)

Post by David Riley »

The annual Ultima tournament will be held at Loyola Academy on Saturday, January 22, 2011. The field will be capped at 24 teams, with preference given to single teams. If I do not have 24 single teams by December 15, I will fill the remaining slots with schools that have expressed an interest in B and C teams. The entry fee will be $65 for the first team and $50 for each additional team. Please note that this date conflicts with Fremd’s annual VJV tournament, so don’t sign up if you are going to Fremd unless you have an additional team.

Every team will be guaranteed ten matches. Advantaged finals will be played if necessary. We should conclude no later than 4:30-5. Lunch is provided as part of the tournament fee.

Format is a modified ACF and questions are a mirror of New Jersey’s BATE tournament.

We will award a choice of books to up to six players of each of the top four teams and will announce an all-tournament team of 10 players, who will also get a choice of books. The all-tournament team will be based on the morning (first five) rounds only.

For further information, post here or email me at [email protected].

DCC A beat Stevenson in the first match of an advantaged final to win the tournament. There was a circle of death between Ignatius, Loyola A, and IMSA A for third place that was played off, but I don't know who won it.

This was a good tournament--well run with good questions.

Thanks to everyone who made this a successful tournament--we were done with 10 rounds by 3pm!

1st: Detroit Catholic Central A
2nd: Stevenson
3rd: Loyola A
4th: St. Ignatius

I'd especially like to thank my co-coach and statskeeper Matt Laird, and my modertors Dan Donohue, Tom Egan, Brad Fischer, David Garb, Jonah Greenthal, Zahed Haseeb, Anant Shah and especially to John Basque and Ben Herman, who stepped in at the last minute. I'd also like to thank the members of our frosh/soph team, who kept score, and Mike Wong, who graciously served as all around "go-for" in addition to scorekeeping for the day. Stats should be posted later tonight.

I don't know if there actually is a playoffs report or not, but at the moment both the playoffs and the overall links are overall reports.

I just posted what Laird gave me without looking at it very carefully. I'll check this out sometime in the next few days, but since the crucial data is available, I'm not prioritizing it very highly.

Just a reminder that this set is still being mirrored in a bunch of places so please don't discuss any of the questions in public. If you have any comments/complaints/questions about the set email me at [email protected]

Fixed. And while I was at it, I put the prelim reports back into the prelim brackets.
