ACF Regionals 2011 @ Stanford (2/26/11)

Post by Eärendil »

The Stanford Quiz Bowl club will be hosting ACF Regionals on February 26, 2011. I will be the TD for this event.

Location
We will be playing in Old Union, though we are looking at the Nitery (right next door). Parking is available in the Tresidder Lot, which is just south of Lagunita Drive at the bottom of the map. The tournament will probably start at 9:30 AM, with registration beginning at 9.

Packet Submission
Detailed packet submission information can be found in the main ACF Regionals thread. It is your responsibility to make sure you meet eligibility and packet submission requirements. Please see the following links for rules for packet writing and formatting guidelines.

Fees
Base fee: $120
Buzzer systems: -$5 each
Staffers: -$10 each
Laptop: -$5 each (max 1/team)
Travel: -$10 for every 200 mi. travelled
International: -$20
New to ACF teams: -$25
New to Quizbowl teams: -$75
Packet fees/discounts: see the main ACF Regionals thread.

Registration
To register, please send me an e-mail at amoudgilATstanfordDOTedu. Please include:
  • The number of teams you will be bringing
  • The total number of players on said teams
  • The number of buzzers, moderators, and staff you will be bringing
Field
School (teams / buzzers / staffers)
Bellarmine (1 / 0 / 1?)
Berkeley (1 / 2 / 0)
UCSD (1 / 1/ 0)
Mission San Jose (1 / 0 / 0)
UCLA (?)

If there are any questions, please let me know. We would love to see all the West Coast teams come out to this event. If there is anything I or the club can do to help make your trip more feasible, don't hesitate to contact me!

I am sorry to say I can't share your hopes on this - ASU has put in a bid to host ACF Regionals as well, as we don't have the money to come all the way to Stanford and have no other mirror to attend unless we make our own. Short of paying for ASU Quizbowl's plane tickets I can't think of anything Stanford Quizbowl could do to make the Stanford site feasible for ASU. I apologize in advance for any good West Coast teams the ASU site peels away from the Stanford site.

I do wish there was a SoCal mirror so that our two teams could meet halfway, but with about 1/3 of the California teams located in the north I can see that it probably makes sense to have about 1/3 of the tournaments up north as well. Because ASU will be unable to attend your tournaments, it is likely that ASU will mirror almost everything Stanford hosts in the foreseeable future. Fair warning.

Hope to see you at the next SoCal-area tournament.

Jeremy and I are both editing; thus there is essentially zero probability that an Irvine team will play this tournament.

Washington is contemplating bringing a team to this and there's a small possibility I'll play on a separate Bellevue team.

We're looking into transportation, so if successful we will have 2 teams.

If we can finish writing our packet and there are no logistical hangups, Boise State expects to be there with 1 team, buzzers, and a volunteer if needed.

Bumping this for visibility. I have not received any confirmation e-mails.

If you are coming, please send me an e-mail to confirm your attendance.

Additionally, if teams are looking for affordable housing, I have a capacious apartment that they may crash in for the night.

Looks like Washington won't be able to make it.

Logistics:

Meet in Old Union 216 by 9:30 AM. We'll be starting at 10 to allow all teams to arrive at the site. The current schedule calls for a triple round-robin, with playoff packets as needed to break any ties. We will try to wrap up the event by 6 PM.

Quick results: After a double round robin, UCSD and Berkeley were both 6-2. A one game final was played and UCSD won 345-275.

Full stats should be up tonight.

EDIT:

Prelim (round-robin) stats can be found here.

Overall stats can be found here.

EDIT 2: Stats links fixed.

Thanks to all the teams who showed up! Much love to Chris from Bellarmine for offering to moderate, and to Brian for doing stats. I was skeptical a tournament could run so smoothly with as few staff as we had, but I guess l was wrong. We started when we said we'd start, we ended when we said we'd end, and I can't really ask more for more. I hope all the teams had fun! We hope to see you all at future Stanford tournaments

On that note, can anyone at Leland Stanford Junior University please confirm their attendance or lack thereof of ACF Nationals?
