April 9: NAQT South Carolina Championship

Post by Byko »

Apologies for the late information going out, as we wanted to confirm our location and date of the tournament before announcing.

The 2005 NAQT South Carolina Championship will be held on Saturday, April 9, at the University of South Carolina in the BA (Close/Hipp) Building. Game format will be untimed 20 tossups and bonus questions.

Each team will be guaranteed a minimum of 7 preliminary rounds followed by playoffs. We will make efforts to have awards for the top schools in different divisions based on school size (e.g., 4A, 3A, etc.) assuming enough teams are in attendance in such groups to warrant it.

Registration will begin at 9:00 am, followed by a brief team meeting at 9:45 and matches to being at 10:00.

The tournament field will be capped at 32 teams. Registration will soon be available online at http://www.acadinit.com or by e-mail, phone, or snail mail. The registration deadline is April 6.

Base entry fee is $90 for the first team and $75 for each additional team with a $15 discount for each fully functional buzzer system and a $15 discount for being at least 80 miles away from the tournament site (distances as determined by mapquest.com).

If you have questions or wish to register, please contact tournament director Jessie Connolly at [email protected], Cale Bonner at [email protected], or David Bykowski at [email protected].

We look forward to seeing you April 9!

This is a bit off the thread, but does anyone have any updated information about Hodges Lewis? I heard he wasn't doing too well and was recuperating [sic] at his brother's house in Savannah. Any news?

Hodges is rehabbing from his strokes in a Rehab Hospital in Savannah. He has made some progress but has miles to go to return to self-sufficiency. He can communicate effectively but his paralysis on his left side is proving hard to accommodate.

I have visited with him on 4 occasions since his stroke. I believe he is transferring to another place at the end of next week (Maybe March 18?).

Keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

What was the final score?

Three cheers for the alma mater. We played Dorman A something like 10 times my last two years, winning twice, getting blown out once, and losing all the rest on the last question.

Good to see them finally pull it out.
