Coffman Union does not open until noon, but there are some rooms on campus we could use, especially for a shootout, before then (we did this last year), assuming we can claim them before anyone else does.

I don't know when the UIUC contingent is leaving, but if we're sticking around Sunday morning (and you could get a court), I'd play basketball.

Hey it looks like Doug Yetman isn't able to make it, so if anyone in the area wants to play on a team with myself, Bruce Arthur and Trevor Davis, shoot me an e-mail at [email protected].

If you don't end up with a fourth, we could give you one of the players from the dissolved house team after the prelims for that TRADE DEADLINE STRETCH RUN.

The idea is to play an invigorating game of basketball before the side events begin. Getting a court might be an obstacle, but I'll try to figure it out today and let everyone know by tomorrow at lunch at the latest.

Hey Minnesota

We need to know where this tournament is taking place, and what time.

Placeholder announcement until someone with more authority shows up:

This tournament will be held at Coffman Memorial Union, which was the site of the last two MO's if that helps. Here is a map: http://www1.umn.edu/twincities/maps/CMU/. There is a parking garage to the rear of Coffman which costs something and since there is no home football game, it should have space to park in. Street parking isn't really an option as far as I know. We will be meeting on the THIRD floor of Coffman (it's small enough that you should find the big room of quizbowlers, I don't know the room off hand).

Registration will probably take place between 8:30 and 9 AM, with games hopefully to start around then, assuming everyone gets there. I try to be punctual, so I shall be at least there by 8:30 or so, and you can thrill to the fact that the rooms will probably be locked like they always are.

Sorry, I'd intended to send out an email on the completion of the set (just a couple tossups left!).

The tournament will indeed be on the third floor of Coffman; we'll be meeting in room 303 (the big room in the middle of the main hallway with all the quizbowlers in it). Registration will hopefully run between 8:30 and 9.

Perhaps I was making a cryptic jab at the very low attendance this year!

No, Brian's right, I meant there is no game.

Every question for Minnesota Open 2010 has now been written. We'll be doing a final read-through of the packets and sending them out later tonight.

Mike Bentley and I are in our room in the Raddison near campus; some kind of high school or college girl's swim team has occupied pretty much every other room on our floor. They've turned the floor into a dorm, with name tags (i's are often dotted with hearts) and motivational posters hanging on the doors.

This is so much better than that time the Maryland squad had the only room on the floor not occupied by the Danish World's Strongest Man team. Magnussons were often umlauted.

Breakdown:

Laferbrook+Vintler are playing Magin et al to get the advantage in the final. Illinois is playing Michigan, with the former trying to imitate James T Farrell and come out of fucking nowhere to win. If Illinois wins, they play the loser of Laferbrook+Vintler for the disadvantage in the final.
