There is a possibility that Bellarmine may be able to come to this. Extremely tentative, but we'll keep you posted.

Arizona State will be sending a delegation again this year, but we're unlikely to be able to get an exact headcount for another week or two at the earliest. The tentative look of things is to have five teams, but people will inevitably confirm their attendance late or drop of the face of the Earth between now and November, so we'll see.

As an aside, I'm proud to see that ASU's C team is the first (and the first C team in the country this year, it appears) to submit a packet. I am slightly concerned that there has yet to be anything submitted by Wolfmanpack or Team Kenneth, but that reflects our attendance uncertainties.

I see you've now met my new vice president Ian. Most of our members have not to this point revealed themselves on these forums, but as my presence fades over the coming year you will increasingly hear the Voice of ASU Quizbowl come out of their mouths (or keyboards) rather than my own.

At this time we have 22 members signed up in 6 teams. Barring a great catastrophe, at least 5 of those teams are likely to be entered.

ASU A "Wolfmanpack" - will play if they succeed in finishing their packet by the no-penalty deadline; may or may not be willing to pay the penalty if their packet is delayed; cannot play without a finished packet
ASU B (name TBD) - will play; will probably choose to forgo the packet discount as they have struggled with writing questions
ASU C (name TBD) - will play; have submitted their packet for the discount (a lot of credit goes to Ian for this)
ASU D (name TBD) - will play; may or may not submit a packet
ASU E (name TBD) - will play if the number of people dropping is not greater than the number of my reserve players; otherwise will be fused with the F team below
ASU F "Presidential Guard" - will buffer any late drops/adds by growing or shrinking as necessary (the guards may be used as reserves to plug gaps in the other teams, particularly ASU E)

I am the sole packet writer for collegiate quizbowl's very first F team (that I know of, anyway), which means I am solely responsible for any packet penalties if I am late. However, this will be a very creative (yet still difficulty appropriate) packet and I guarantee it will be worth any wait. :)

Dang it. I guess we'll just have to grow enough to field a 7-team delegation at some future ACF Fall.

But I'd venture to guess that the Arizona State team will soon hold the record for the largest number of person-miles covered by a quizbowl expedition, and therefore this will objectively be the most epic quizbowl journey ever undertaken. (In literature, there's a basic rule of thumb: epicity = party size x distance traveled)

We sent five teams to a Cardinal Classic once. I'm pretty sure golden age Chicago is going to win basically all of these little metrics you can come up with.

That's amazing. Did you fly 20 people all the way out there? How did you pay for that?

Yeah, we can't afford to break your record. That sounds like one awesome Golden Age though.

ASU D has a packet coming along. It should be done within the next 24 hours. Unfortunately, its team leader (me) has struggled to find internet access during the past few weeks. ASU D's leader also has to figure out a way to afford car repairs and how to avoid towing threats by ASU.

The first thing that comes to mind right now is "GG."

We should have an e-mail to Alan by the middle of this week, but as it stands, I may be spending all day tomorrow lobbying Ken to read my packet consisting entirely of UEFA European Championship tossups at practice as punishment.

We need to get our student government funding forms (requires proof of trip costs, including registration fees) turned in today. Can anyone from Caltech send us an invoice for 5 teams ($100 each) by today (preferably before 3:00pm)? Thanks!!

A quick note to our kind Caltech hosts: If you are making schedules for the teams, can you make sure the ASU teams are labeled B-F (instead of A-E)? ASU is sending 5 teams, but the former A team is explicitly not competing at this tournament.

Two members of ASU A didn't write the questions they were supposed to for their packet (we finally heard from one of them a couple days ago confirming that he was withdrawing; the other never even bothered to tell anyone that he wasn't going to have his part done), and a third member was very late with his contribution. He contacted ACF Fall Editor Evan Adams a couple days ago about their situation and is waiting to hear back. If permitted to play, the two former A-team members will be folded into our E and F teams. As they did each do their 1/4 of a packet and were simply left out in the cold by their teammates failing to deliver, I think it would be fair to allow them to play in this tournament. However we are still waiting for official confirmation of that.

Is the ASU A half-packet being used? If so, I'd hope those former A-team members would be folded into only one of the E/F team.

It appears there have been a few internal misunderstandings with my team's ACF Fall situation, which are partly my fault as the team coach. I just sent an e-mail to Evan explaining the situation.

Note that ASU will still be entering 5 teams and they will be teams B through F. We look forward to seeing you all this Saturday. Thanks to Caltech for hosting!

UCSD went undefeated 12-0; RB came in second with a 9-3 record, edging out Caltech, who also had a 9-3 record, by (iirc) 0.8 ppg. UCLA went 8-4, and I can't recall the rest of the field

ASU E was surprised to see stats yesterday night, as they were under the impression that they were 3-9, not 2-10. Did you guys discover a scoresheet error that changed a game result or something? Just wondering.
