Spring KMO Results Thread

Post by the return of AHAN »

Barrington Middle School, Station Campus, scored 1477 today. The highlight, for me, was the password on the junior disk (see new avatar). The lowlight would be the 9th question of the junior high set that identified "telescope" as the correct answer to, "Which of these items was a Dutch invention?" My kids ruled out telescope, assuming that one to be Italian. I raced over to an encyclopedia set to look that up (the computer was in use, obviously) and the Compton's encyclopedia on the telescope effectively debunked the notion that Hans Lippershey was the inventor, as his patent application was denied due to many people already having knowledge of such a device. The article also explained that magnification with lenses was something discovered well before Lippershey & Galileo's time. I photocopied this page and faxed it to Academic Hallmarks. I'm curious about their response, or if they'll even have one.

615. Edward Bell HS, Camp Hill, AB: 618

616. Linton-Stockton HS, IN: 612

617. Portsville Central HS, NY: 610

Hickman Mills is a regular high school in southern Kansas City, and CODE is the district gifted program, so I would imagine it's just the CODE students enrolled at Hickman Mills.

Kentucky stays out a bottom 10 list pertaining to education...it must be some kind of a first!

On a more relavant note, I'm glad to see the Gatton Academy (the Kentucky Academy of Math and Science that is hosted by WKU) snag the top spot among Kentucky schools, and finish #115 overall.

There's nothing funny about the last place teams in any event.

Hey, this was a really not nice thing to do. It just seems kind of mean spirited.

I think you're right about that, and I apologize. Perhaps this particular tangent is better off being sent to Dr. Zaius's realm.

Question (on the chance this doesn't get deleted): Does this particular competition call for "short" answers, or is it all multiple choice?

All multiple choice with semi frequent interruptions by bad puns and other forms of wordplay involving the use of the letters auk.
